Last time the lightning struck my setup it fried 2 PCs and the router. I have been thinking about getting a mikrotik for a while but I don't like the idea of replacing the mikrotik as well incase lightning strikes again.

Had a 4 hour Skype conversation with the gf last night. No issues at all. The quality was amazing and no dropped connections.

I have a surge plug for the telephone line, it then goes to the pots filter, then to the modem/router. If I don't use my pc I remove the LAN cable from the pc for extra lighting protection.

I have a UPS to supply power to PC, modem, amp and hi-fi.
 
Hi guys,

Telkom have issued notice that KZN customers can experience downtime this evening from around 22:00 onwards due to software updates being deployed on their Huwaei MSAN equipment. If you are connected to an MSAN unit in KZN likelihood is your DSL connection will drop from around 22:00 this evening while the new software is loaded and final testing completed. Please note that this is not ISP related and we are unable to fix this - it is expected maintenance on equipment on Telkom's side. Tomorrow the same impact will be felt in areas extending from Bloemfontein to certain parts of Gauteng, due to software updates and various MSAN cutovers taking place (which is good news for many customers).

During this downtime there is no need to report a Telkom fault. If your connection is not restored within 12 hours and we manage your line, please contact us for further investigation...

Where do you see this? Is there a schedule / website somewhere with some info?

I think this is what infscrtyrisk was seeing probably.
 
Gotta say. Had some stellar peformance this whole weekend. Streamed 5 hours of SC2 BlizzCon semi-finals and finals without any problem. At source.
