New Telkom software upgrades wrestle even more control away from ISPs on the sync side. Very much automated these days, but we may be able to assist depending on the nature of the problem. But best to deal with support directly so you can properly diagnose and resolve...

Spoke to someone a couple of days ago. This was how the conversation went:

(05:17:35 AM) Private Support: Telkom recently upgraded their ASSIA system - it has resulted in some lines syncing at higher speeds than their profile allows, and it is causing increased latency on these lines. Some are automatically syncing lower due to ASSIA re-checking.
(05:18:03 AM) Fanie Dry: OK.
(05:18:10 AM) Fanie Dry: So what needs to happen here?
(05:19:26 AM) Private Support: We cant log a fault because they will simply tell us it was re synched according to the distance from your exchange
(05:19:52 AM) Private Support: They are doing so without any warning or feedback to the customers
(05:19:56 AM) Fanie Dry: but i've been syncing at 10mb forever
(05:21:04 AM) Private Support: Yes basically what they are doing now is if your line was syncing at 10Mbps but the line stats are not good, they drop the sync speed in order to improve your SNR and attenuation
(05:21:27 AM) Fanie Dry: my line stats were fine before, why would the situation get worse?
(05:22:31 AM) Private Support: We honestly do not have all the information, this is done directly by Telkom for whatever reasons they see fit and they do not offer us any feedback about it

Not entirely sure I agree with that.

It syncs up now too. Or is at least supposed to if the line can handle it. We can try to have to resynced back on 10Mbps but there's no guarantees. Ask support to submit it nonetheless on my suggestion...

Have the opposite problem, it seems. They've bumped my sync speed, but it gets rubbish at anything over 8mbps. Now I'm stuck with huge ping spikes now and then. So annoying.

The fault? Or the request to up the sync?

I think there is definitely a problem at the exchange as the line drops every hour.

Then both. Let the guys run through it with you. I'm not in the office today, so can't easily relay info to and fro I'm afraid. Well, at least not as efficiently as I'd like to...

I am genuinely not trying to be funny and perhaps I missed it but am I using the correct portal?

Only function that I can see, change password and view delayed usage.

Am I missing something?

So I have a question for you DJ. Not pointing fingers but more so curious then anything else.

The recent MyBB post about data hogs says that your top user uses 8.3TB a month on a home premium account.

How is this not seen as abuse to your network? Even if you factor in the free midnight to 6am data, over a 31 day month that at maximum can be just under 3TB. So at the best of odds, how can 5.3TB be acceptable?

As I said not trying to start anything, just curious.

Click to see usage for each day and drill into more details. View login history. Online account management is being deployed next and there are big changes happening on the portal side of things in the coming days...

User is now on a wholesale model with us with fibre and DSL. We carried the cost initially as we had plenty spare unused capacity at the time and used the time to discuss the best way forward and best solution for him...

Thats if you can actually log into your portal to begin with...

DJ if you have time to explain.
The login history shows that I login and logout every 58 - 59 minutes.
I assume that my router doesn't actually lose sync, but it is more aimed at determining usage per hour?
I only saw this now and haven't checked my router to see if there were any disconnections.

If it disconnects it would indicate as such in the logs there. We receive radius data from Telkom roughly every hour, hence the hourly entries...

This is one of the big things we're sorting out. We had a minor incident a few weeks back that has resulted in me being even more paranoid about security. So the login system updates are undergoing a fair amount of testing but will open for everyone this week. Apologies for the delay, but I'd rather delay than rush things and cause more serious issues...

Anybody else that cant use more than 2,048.00MB per hour according to the portal ?

And this morning between 01:10 and 01:45 I did download 5.71GB

Yep, havent seen anything above 2,048.00MB but the usage email is correct
Are all entries that same number or vary lower with that as the maximum?

Can you PM me your username? Want to check on my end for you...
