New Telkom software upgrades wrestle even more control away from ISPs on the sync side. Very much automated these days, but we may be able to assist depending on the nature of the problem. But best to deal with support directly so you can properly diagnose and resolve...
Spoke to someone a couple of days ago. This was how the conversation went:
(05:17:35 AM) Private Support: Telkom recently upgraded their ASSIA system - it has resulted in some lines syncing at higher speeds than their profile allows, and it is causing increased latency on these lines. Some are automatically syncing lower due to ASSIA re-checking.
(05:18:03 AM) Fanie Dry: OK.
(05:18:10 AM) Fanie Dry: So what needs to happen here?
(05:19:26 AM) Private Support: We cant log a fault because they will simply tell us it was re synched according to the distance from your exchange
(05:19:52 AM) Private Support: They are doing so without any warning or feedback to the customers
(05:19:56 AM) Fanie Dry: but i've been syncing at 10mb forever
(05:21:04 AM) Private Support: Yes basically what they are doing now is if your line was syncing at 10Mbps but the line stats are not good, they drop the sync speed in order to improve your SNR and attenuation
(05:21:27 AM) Fanie Dry: my line stats were fine before, why would the situation get worse?
(05:22:31 AM) Private Support: We honestly do not have all the information, this is done directly by Telkom for whatever reasons they see fit and they do not offer us any feedback about it
Not entirely sure I agree with that.
