Facebook and downloads is up to k@k this weekend (Sat & Sun).

FB only loads half a page on my main page, half on a group page and time out on a second group page. Switching to WA seemed to ease the download issue a bit, but speeds still slow.

After switching back to CW same old sad story.

And all this while trying to get info off a crapberry that struggles to install an app to transfer data.

You appear to have a DNS related issue there or line related. Are you using our default DNS or an alternate? If an alternate, please switch back to ours. If ours, give Google DNS a try and reboot all devices and the router. If that fails, talk to support as the network is operating well below all thresholds set for it, and there are no known issues our side nor upstream. DNS appears fine too on our end, and throughput stats across all product types and services also not picking up any network problems at all on a macro level. Also unable to replicate, so appears very localised on your end...

I am using the Google DNS.

Everything returned to normal again around 23:30 last night.

If I encounter the issue again, I'll switch to default DNS, test and contact support if issue is not going away.

@DJ is there any indication of free speed upgrades in the pipeline from Telkom? There were rumors at the end of last year of this happening, but it never occurred, now it seems to have fallen dead.

I would like to upgrade to 10Mb/s sometime, but even 4 is stretching my budget at the moment.

None I'm afraid, but we're pushing for some other reductions in cost from Telkom on a few aspects and we're confident the rumours surrounding their agreement is true. I cannot and will not say any more on the topic I'm afraid, as it's not our place to speak on their behalf...

I'm hoping it's with regards to the Naked ADSL rumors which surfaced a few weeks ago.

Sad to hear about the free upgrades nonetheless(not your fault obviously), I guess you get what you can afford, although SA ADSL prices are still ridiculous.

Thanks for the information, as always. :)

im in the same boat as you Ho3n3r, whereas i would dearly like to test Shauns Network, but my pocket unfortunately wont allow for it right now. If Naked Adsl happens soon, or there is a major cut in cost through Telkom somewhere, then that will be really great. One just gets the feeling that Telkom are somehow neglecting the DSL users somewhat with Fibre being rolled out.

so it would be aun unbelievable development if they bring out Naked Adsl, but sadly i cant see this happening. The only rumour is that Telkom are looking to reduce costs to the ISP's in terms of wholesale i think, meaning that the ISP's will be able to reduce cost on their side to the client.

I exepct that naked DSL will not result in a cost reduction as many people predict it will. Don't invest all too much into that idea being in any way a saving grace from a cost perspective. There are better and more practical solutions with immediate benefit that will drive the industry forward on a lower cost base, than naked DSL. Naked DSL would be nice but really isn't what is pressingly required right now...

Very interesting that DJ, as i always thought taking the voice cost away would drive down pricing.

Is anyone else experiencing bad speeds today? Youtube streaming is sitting around 0.5 - 0.8mbps on my 6mbps line.

Came here coz my Youtube is also chugging. Did something similar a few days ago but sorted itself out in a few minutes.

I'm now streaming at 03 - 0.5mbps. DJ... do you have any info related to this?
