Everyone, and our own. We're already live on Vuma and Telkom, with other providers becoming available in the coming weeks...

How does this fibre thing work?

I'm a trustee on our body corporate and we are in talks with Cybersmart (lightspeed) to get fibre in the building. This has got as far as a site survey with installation plan waiting to be signed off by us. If we go ahead with getting Cybersmart kit installed does that then mean that the only fibre option for our residents will be Cybersmart, i.e. for apartment blocks the ISPs are currently in a land grab at the moment where they get the chance to "plant their flag" (install their kit) in a block and from then on they effectively own the customers base within that building or is there some sort of open standards and access on the equipment that any given ISP installs so that other fibre options are available to residents even if ISP <x> was the one that installed the kit?

If you go ahead and sign up with Cybersmart, you can say goodbye to ever using any other ISP on their lines or offering your residents choices. You're locked in to them for life. FYI, we used to be a Cybersmart backbone reseller and are no longer, and so long as Lightspeed remains a Cybersmart product it is highly unlikely that Crystal Web will ever wish to engage with them in any form, even if they were open access (choose your own ISP) on their fibre (which to the best of my knowledge they are still not).

If I'm honest, I'm the wrong person to ask about an opinion about Cybersmart and their products as it is very difficult for me to even pretend to be neutral about them considering what I know. I personally rate them on equal footing with Openweb. The only reason we don't disclose what transpired is because we're not convinced that it's worth nearly ending up in court...again!

FYI, we can do the exact same thing for you BTW - but on an open access basis - we can fibre up the building and let you cherry-pick your ISP. Talk to our business sales team...;)

that about says everything you need to know, to avoid using them

Which accounts work on Fibre?

Only the capped ones? Or Uncapped as well but limited to the usual speed I guess?

Over Telkom FTTH all of our normal accounts will work. Over Vumatel and other FTTH providers, we have custom packages and prices available which will go up this week on our website, but should already be loaded up on the Vuma side, for example...

R1710 charge to us for installing your line. We subsidise it and we're the best bang for buck...

wait wait
That sounds suspiciously like the vumatel CPE install fee?

Those prices on the vumatel website aren't bad for the crystalweb packages.

DJ, would I be right in saying that they are similar in performance to your Basic Uncapped packages? Or is it a completely different type of profile? Basing this off pricing.

It's uncapped unshaped on around a 5:1 contention target. It's like a business line...

Wow, so the 100/100 is almost the same I’m paying now for 10/1. That's pretty awesome.

Darn, now I want fibre to my home/area. (Even though the cable is in the ground they just left it late last year.)

DJ, just checking how long the promo prices on the Vumatel network are going to exist, and if they're locked in when the 12 months end?

Presenting to the Body Corporate soon re: vuma. I've included your non promo prices in my presentation, as I don't want to look like a fool by saying "It's RX rand" and, should it get approval, it's now RX + 20%.

We're still making a call on how long the promo pricing will stay up for, but if you've bought it at that price, that's the cost you'll get it at. If your HOA wants to arrange a price with us, they most certainly can through direct comms...;)
