My internet has been down since around 10pm. Rebooting router does nothing. Third night in a row now, starting the same time.

I can only assume something at the exchange is borked.

Edit: Truly losing my mind. Feel like grabbing an axe and driving to the exchange building.

Well it seems some hectic shenanigans are going on. Turns out I was capped, and both my free Afrihost and Web Africa accounts were too so checking the connection with alternative ISPs couldn't work. Total usage for this month is 450-something gigs.

Here's where stuff gets odd though:
- We usually have almost 100GB unused at the end of each month.
- CW live chat supplied this usage graph, which is a bit more detailed than the one you get on users.isdsl.net:
lqRCj0U.png

- From that I gather that 94GB of usage yesterday is responsible for my issue, and that it's unlikely that someone has hacked my account.
- I have a Ubiquiti wifi setup. If anyone was accessing the wifi without my consent I'd pick it up immediately in the access logs, as approved devices have been identified and named accurately.
- Everyone in the family swears they haven't done any crazy downloading during peak times.
- I'm inclined to believe them, as we were all together and doing family stuff for most of yesterday. PCs were off according to their owners.

So there we go. An insane amount of usage occurred yesterday that I can't account for, and now I've had to buy a prepaid data account from cappedadsl.co.za.

And just as I finished typing this post I realised that my connection can't actually achieve that level of usage. Even if I go with 4MB/s download speed - which we don't get, but for argument's sake - it doesn't come close. 4MB x 60 seconds x 60 minutes = 14.4GB an hour. So how did we do 15.2GB, 17GB, 16.1GB and 16GB in four of the hours yesterday afternoon?

40 megabits equals 5 Megabytes not 4. Your theoretical maximum is about 19000MB per hour but with copper and TCP overhead factored in those numbers make sense at full speed

Although I don't receive 5MB/s (and chat is telling me my line stats suggest I should be - wtf), I can see that the achieved maximum in an hour was at the limit of what should be theoretically possible on 40Mbps.

This is really, really bugging me. I can't believe anyone in my family would download nearly 100GB in the middle of Sunday when they've toed the line perfectly for months with the rule that large downloads occur after midnight. I haven't spotted anyone playing games before this drama started to suggest a massive download may have occurred recently. One game couldn't even achieve that usage. And in any case, everyone swears their innocence. And the wifi access logs are clean. And the family was with me on Sunday, so any downloads were all scheduled ahead of time or being done by someone who isn't in my family.

I wish I knew wtf happened yesterday. Most of the wifi devices in the house can't achieve 40Mbps. Only the desktop PCs can. Windows updates wouldn't bring in 100GB. And everyone I've asked said they don't even know what they would download to do 100GB in 7 hours. Holy s**t my jimmies are rustled.

That kind of download could be:

- multiple windows updates
- steam updates
- torrent schedule that went haywire

Couple of people left YouTube running.

Your Ubiquiti console shows the usage of each device doesn't it?

For the devices connected directly to the router, I suggest that you install an app called Networx which will give you usage down at the app level

Thanks I'll check it out. I only get data usage per device if I have the UniFi controller running on my PC, which I usually don't. Pretty annoying.

Any reason why you don't?

You might want consider setting up a cheapie on the network to run the controller and network 'management' type tools

Btw, Ubiquiti now has an app that you can use to do some basic management from your phone

If my PC is on the controller is running. The problem is my PC isn't on much of the time.

Not sure if this has been asked or answered somewhere else, have not been on mybroadband too much in recent months. What's up with Crystalweb Web Portal? Since I joined you guys it was not working, only worked for a short while and now it's been down for a very long time again.

We are still waiting for the portal.

You might have missed the post about DJ being banned. Don't know what the details is. I am to afraid to ask and stand the chance to get banned too:D

I'm also having issues. 40Mbps can barely stream on high let alone source on Twitch

Same here. 40Mbps and can't stream Twitch. Live chat says they've tested my account their side and there are no issues, and therefore it must be an issue with my exchange. Bummer.

I wish I could say that it's a CW thing, but performance sucks too on the cappedadsl.co.za prepaid account I'm currently using. :(

I'm asking as I've also had issues over the last day or two.

Seems like Telkom/Opensrve must be having issues in NMB.
