Man I hate the hype train. People will be building it up in their minds and expecting a lot, and probably get a lot less than they expected. It's probably in companies' best interests to stop making announcements about announcements.

And it is day 4 of the Vumatel CW Fibre partial outage... translation "international is a **** show".

Any idea when you guys will have this working?

Edit: My apologies - I see this is supposed to be for ADSL performance only - will go create a new thread in the fibre forum.

I find myself checking this forum and my email every few minutes to see if CW has made the announcement!

yeah! get your entitled arse out of here!

:D

Good news - sort of:

I've been following this debate and pondering this DDoS stuff, seemed a bit iffy to me BUT it just happened to a client of mine also in PE but on TI capped - 40GB gone in one day.

Fortunately their network is behind an IPCop box so you can see the traffic on the WAN side (RED) but nowt on the LAN (GREEN):

Here's the corresponding SAIX data:

Guess both Bryn & CW are vindicated.

Thanks for that. Interesting to see an attack in numbers. Makes me wish I had a UniFi gateway or similar IPCop setup when it happened.

Well CW's announcement about the announcement was hype building. They know that they've built up expectations, and I'm expecting an impressive announcement from them today or tomorrow. If they were just lowering prices a little and doing a little here and there, it wouldn't have warranted such pomp and circumstance.

It's been a long time since I last visited this thread and I see now that I'm not the only one experiencing problems. I really hope this doesn't turn out to be an "Afrihost" kind of disaster because by all things holy that was a giant mess.

Case in point. You are bound to be disappointed - it's clear the announcement has made you expect a lot from it -expectations they probably won't meet.

There are no issues on the DSL network and we have massive amounts spare in terms of capacity. Any issues should go via support so if there is a network fault it can be escalated to the correct channels.

In terms of issues, there is a massive and on-going DDoS against our fibre customers over Vumatel which is causing degraded services as we mitigate against the attack.

As far as I'm aware, the CW network for DSL users is as rock solid as ever. It's the fibre guys being hammered with DDOS attacks, and that's not exactly CW's fault.

One of the few periods I appreciate my normal, stone-age ADSL and prefer it over fibre. :p

Oh, didn't realise it was also only Vumatel fibre customers. Not even Telkom fibre customers impacted.
