I had issues over the weekend. Think it was DDoS attacks. Traffic landed at my router at full speed and 1000 packets per second. The data just landed at my router, nothing was routed to the LAN. All the traffic was from China and from hundred of computers. My internet was completely unusable.

Switching off my router to reset my IP only worked for a couple of minutes before it started again. Switching account to Afrihost and I did not see the same results for hours, then after switching to CW again within 10 minutes the same insane traffic. I asked for help at CW over chat as the phones where not working but did not help much. I haven't downloaded anything in a while yet my usage so far has jumped from 20GB to 45GB on day one (15th) and then it was normal and I see another 7GB used yesterday and nothing was downloaded out of the normal.

Is anyone at CW aware of any issues or have anyone else experienced similar problems?

Do you have a DynDNS or any other Dynamic IP service?

I do, the free one that you can use with RouterOS. Still, if that is the cause, why only on CW and not Afrihost using the same router?

Hmmm RouterOS.

Make sure you are blocking Port 53 and 5353 to the outside world.

Because someone can/will then use your Router as a DNS server.

You should have a default "block all" rule which is the simplest way. Then only port forward what you need.

Yes, I have actually reverted back to that with a master "block all" rule, I haven't even started moving allowed rules before it, yet the problem is even though everything is blocked (and I get my logs from that block rule) I still get thousands packets a second at max speeds with a host of random ports including 53... It was like this when I got home again, I have since disabled the IP/CLOUD (DynDNS) feature and will monitor.

I have also added a rule to log outgoing traffic and once I start the ppp connection, even before any outgoing packets are captured, the new IP is being probed, that carries on for long enough and the UDP flood starts

Anyone having problems connecting to the CW news server?

Failed to connect: (10060, '[Errno 10060] A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond') [email protected]:119

news.is.co.za is working though so just using that for now.

EDIT: Just realised they're the same server, nextgennews account working though.

NNTP still not working.

This is the ports I have for Crystal Web's Secondary NNTP servers

news.crystalweb.co.za port 23 or 80 or 119

SSL Encrypted: port 22 or 443 or 563

Do you use the correct username and password for the server?

Use news.is.co.za, nntp.is.co.za or news.isdsl.net for IS NNTP.

News1 is timing out
News is being actively refused

IS connections not working either.

Did the usernames and passwords get changed?

This is the response I got from support yesterday morning regarding the news server:

"Thank you for getting in touch with us. Unfortunately the news server is offline for now and should be back within 24 hrs. I apologize for the inconveniences caused by this."

It's been a bit longer than 24 hrs though...

On Thursday I was told there was a maintenance issue with the server.

Hi guys, looking nor new isp due to current one having high latency. Would like some user feed back about latencies they experience?

The new client portal is finally live I see. Doesn't have any usage stats for my account, and lists the cap as uncapped. I can't update my details either, which I see are out of date. Only option is to change password.
