And not paying at month end, as simple as that, unless you somehow managed to get into some contract. Is canceling as simple as making your decoder inactive or are there more hoops through which to jump?![]()
It goes out via debit order which I assume will now cease...And not paying at month end, as simple as that, unless you somehow managed to get into some contract.
I would never assume anything, but give it a try and see.It goes out via debit order which I assume will now cease...
I wouldn't be surprised if I have to call them up to officially sever all ties.I would never assume anything, but give it a try and see.
I did a similar thing some time ago, I was paying for mine and my parents so I figured I would cancel mine and stream from my parents. I never even deactivated it on the app, just stopped paying, luckily it wasn't a debit order so it was much easier.I wouldn't be surprised if I have to call them up to officially sever all ties.
Figured someone on here would have done the process already and be able to advise.
Very keen not to have the R900+ coming off my account every month...

What about Showmax.. A lot of Afrikaans shows there.. I must say I enjoy Showmax more than Netflix and Amazon these daysLike I asked in another thread where you called people idiots, give me a streaming service where my retired mother can stream her Afrikaans programs without paying for DSTV.
If you don't want to pay for it, fine. For me the value proposition is still there because it keeps my mother happy so I will continue being sick in the head and paying them 1k a month.
^^ Same boat here.I wouldn't be surprised if I have to call them up to officially sever all ties.

TLDR - Now in month 3 after DSTV cancellation, debit order issues ongoing.
Would really appreciate your update if, and how, you managed to stop the debit orders.
Ours was month to month after ' price lock' debit order contract expired years ago.
mid Feb DSTV Premium cancelled, confirmed online.
25 Feb. Service de-activated, confirmed cancelled online, nil account balance.
26 Feb. Incorrect R 949 debit order deducted. Here we go.
27 Feb Refund promised within 7 days.
26 Mar. R949 refunded, confirmed Feb cancellation yet again. No debit order taken.
Naively thought that was the end of it.
- not a freakin chance ...
26 April R1883 debit order deducted.
27 April Another hour on call with DSTV.
Agent very politely agreed the debit orders should have stopped and said " DSTV system had somehow incorrectly re-activated the service'.
She emailed formal apology with confirmation of Feb cancellation and ref no.for R 1883 refund promised.
9 May - No refund to date.
TIA![]()
Why don't you in the interim go for the lowly priced dstv package now whilst you sort your debit order problem?^^ Same boat here.

^ OK, cheers for quick reply.I actually managed to do it all online. They even refunded a debit order that had already come off!

I spoke too soon.I actually managed to do it all online. They even refunded a debit order that had already come off!
Or they could, ya know, just function properly...Maybe a good idea to first downgrade to the lowest package, Easyview, wait a day or 2 and then cancel. Then incorrect debit orders would be small.
But you can only downgrade at the end of your billing cycle (of course you can upgrade anytime...)
^^ Same scenario here. Sorry to hear you may also be in for the long haul.I spoke too soon
They refunded me last month.
This month, even though my account remains cancelled, they have bill me sommer twice!![]()
Thanks for this.^^ Same scenario here. Sorry to hear you may also be in for the long haul.
Our service was cancelled 25 Feb then double debit order taken a month after initial refund for first incorrect debit order.
Latest DSTV agent ( 011 289 2222) emailed confrmation with another ref no. last month that :-
'Incorrect system re-activation' cancelled, no further debit orders will be deducted .
Incorrect 2 month debit order R1803 to be refunded.
No refund yet.
Getting ready to register formal complaints to all possible authorities if not resolved by end May.
Yes, did online' stop' at the bank, but I gather that any change to debit order value just goes through again. Thanks for this.
Maybe easier to just block the debit from your end with the bank? I'm going to try that.
