Does the Analogue system still work?
I see it this way. The line rental is for the piece of crap and corroded copper wire running to your home. The ADSL rental is for the ability to actually transmit anything over the peice of crap.

They could just as well make it a standard DSL line for all and lower the cost.

None of the people I know sit next to the phone all day. So if I call someone, I call Cellphone or skype them. Similarly when someone need to call me they call cellphone or skype. I really thought Telkom wanted everyone to move over to VOIP and that that is why they charged so much for the "conventional" phone calls.

Never had an antique fixed line phone. Using a couple of gigs on DSL 4Meg ("1024") in Pretoria

4 Meg ADSL 9 Gig cap (MWEB), Edimax load balancing router, iBurst 1 Gig, analog phone line for the house / office, ADSL and iBurst for data only.

iBurst simply to back up the line and to use the data that accumulates on the account 70 / 30 balance, ADSL always takes priority

Only extra voice phone is the MWEB IP phone adapter I got for free from them
Hardly ever used (its enough to live with a cellphone and a single landline) you can only speak to one person at a time

On Closer3 package, upgrade from closer 2 to get adsl line. Cheapest option, as bundled.

Should be flat fee for line rental , flat fee for access , etc.

Current fee systems ALL ICASA twak is so convoluted you cannot compare apples with apples.

We do not need Telkom voice services at all!

We do not even own an analogue phone. We use our 384k DSL line at home (Pretoria) exclusively for data.

I have no use for the voice service on my Telkom 384 ADSL line.

I remember arguing with the sales consultant and pursuing the fact that I don't need or want the voice service. I had no option to take it, if I had a choice it would be history & I would welcome the extra cash for bandwidth.

The consumer should have the option of adding the voice service it should not be mandatory !!!

i have the same thing... i ONLY want the ADSL feauture and not the line and the line rental... how can this be avoided? also, does neotel have something where you don't need line rental and anly pay for the ADSL line?

I have not used a Telkom Phone for the last 2 years or so (Since my kids broke my phone )

I have just gotten a Vox VOIP phone that also runs on my ADSL

I use the closer 1 plan because it is there and was free to install.
