This is literally why I have a Tyme account - so that I can use a different card at forecourts at other non-Engen garages.

Never ever go into the convenience stores with your fnb cards! Lol

Remember, the flip side of this is that some gas bottle replacements are marked as fuel.
So you win some, lose some.

I would rather not take the risk.. Unless of course you don't max the petrol allocation

Damn I wish I knew this at the beginning of winter.

I have the same issue as per this article... Continuously having to fight with eBucks because they don't allocated points correctly, end up waiting up till a month to rectify the problem.

Good thing its a free service that you dont have to use....

Ah it was an “Accident” how many people will never notice or query? Save a boat load of cash for FNB.

Not quite true. You don't have to use it, sure, but it is anything but "free". You pretty much have to sell your soul to FNB and do all kinda stupid things (like use certain parts of the app at least once a month) to maintain your status so that you get better eBucks levels.

And of course, to get the double-up feature, you have to have your car financing at Westbank and ONLY use Engen garages, which definitely has a cost associated to it (it might not be the closest to you etc.). I actually know of some people who specifically financed a small part of their car with westbank so that they can get the fuel double-up feature.

You don't have to do any of that, unless you want the benefit.

Ah that explains it all.. I guess I should get an alt card as someone suggests.

Tyme works well and is cheap :)
Only thing lacking is Apple Pay support, but I guess most of their user base are hardly iPhone users.

No but but, I need to spend R209+ or more on Premier in order for me to get R300 back in points each month if I jump high enough for FNB

And maybe use the airport lounge benefit once a year, you know to feel just a little important…

Tyme blocked my avvount and I haven't been able to access it for over 24 hours. No one can assist me. Apparently I have to wait for them to call me. So I'll stick to fnb. If my banker can't help I can actually go to a branch.

I did get more than R3,000 worth of eBucks over the last month...

Yup - private banking makes little sense in this digital world...

However, they pay me about R 40k per year after fees to do so... And no, no savings or investments with FNB/RMB/FRG and the 'hoops' are quite simple once you find your rhythm.
