FTTH over Dark Fibre Africa's backbone

Hello,

which ISP's provide internet over DFA's "backbone". There is a live network in Rustenburg, but no ISP is here yet. Whats going on? What must happen for an ISP to provide internet services?
 
DFA is just an investment company who owns fibre. Providers actually have to install equipment and "light" the fibre. On that note, Rustenburg tends to fall out of coverage onto main backbones. FTTH over DFA is also not cost effective for home scenarios but rather backbone for providers.
 
Who rates we make a template explaining that just because there is DFA (or any wholesale fibre provider) running next to your house doesn't mean you can get fibre. I made this mistake and it seems many others do too.

Well 11k would get 100mbps. So 10 people paying ~1k each would get 10mbps minimum. But most of the time you would probably see near full line speeds.

100mbps is also 32tb monthly theoretical. So can you manage less than 3tb per month?

Except at R11k you're not getting layer 2 and bandwidth breakout @ 100Mbps SLA'd. You're buying a best effort layer 2 and local + international blend which will contend. So your 10Mbps is maximum burst speed and contention will be felt very quickly. Your only solution is to aggregate your layer 2 links to derive any cost benefit. Which on a pure reseller model you will not achieve. If you want to offer last mile, ONT, backhaul, and internet, you need better than a per link reseller free-for-all...

On that option yes. Otherwise bring in backhaul and normal FTTH on metro-e.

That's what I'm saying. If you want proper metro ethernet backhaul and proper local and international traffic you must manage capacity yourself rather than buying a best effort layer 2 backhaul operating on limited peering and spare international breakout from the core. Especially at these speeds, and especially where you need to run the network efficiently to secure margin. We ran a trial of a proposed one-price solution and for dedicated traffic it's still too costly, and on a best effort basis you're wasting your time unless you are aggregating your own layer 2 links and building your own ring.
