When they do the box inside your place, make sure they mount the ONT properly (with the supplied screws) and not with cheap double sided tape like they did at my place. Its all fallen off the wall and probably damaged the fibre now.

Thanks, I will remember to ask them.

My current Telkom line terminates in a cupboard where all my networking gear resides so I will ask them to mount the ONT there then everything is in one spot.

Are you also with Frogfoot?

There's so many cheap and easy to use GIS programs today, which would make things 100 times easier. My guess is that they simply don't know where it all is anymore and the cost to find out seriously outweighs the cost to record it.
 
They could even use the fibre guys to their advantage, fibre guys can mark an unearthed utility for municipality.

We are with Blitz and they installed the stuff before Frogfoot bought them out

I wonder if we will stay with Blitz or we will get Frogfoot's pricing and faster packages

Our block if on Frogfoots coverage map now so not too sure

I'd hazard a guess that you will be able to revert to Frogfoot's packages, however I am not sure how that will work with folks who have contracts with ISP's (is that even a thing with Fibre?).

Hopefully there will be some sort of deal where they migrate you to one of the available Frogfoot packages and carry the cost of moving over
 
Took a drive in rowallan park today, workers are back at digging, was missing atleast 20 days in our area , asked the supervisor his reply was they had to go help in kabega somewhere.
 
Anyone else on SADV network getting really high response times/pings? I don't check it unless there is a problem but I remember it being around 17 - 25ms in June/July and now it's chilling at 45 - 51ms over the past week.

I've even disconnected entire network, connected laptop directly to ONT and dialed PPPoE connection. Same results.

Perhaps post a local and international speed test plus a Ping Plotter for both. Might help see what the issue is.

that is terrible latency, looks like its on the provider side as its straight from the 1st hop after your router

With that latency it looks like its going PE, DBN, JHB, CT maybe

Could be a fibre break between PE - CT if it ever went that route

As of yesterday, the speedtest.net result has come down to 37ms but now it's ixp.durban??

no point cancelling then its affecting all isp's :/

do you know any other people on SADV who could check

I've been asking ISP's if migrations on SADV are possible. Responses I've got are all No so far. They say I have to cancel and then apply at new ISP.

I'll probably stay with SADV as the fibre network so there is no new installation and I suspect the issues are with Vox (or the combination of Vox & SADV) anyway. Neighbour behind me is with MWEB on SADV and their ping is half of mine...

How would I do that?

I've sent Vox and SADV tracert history and speed tests for 20, 21, 22 and 23 October.

They are getting 40ms with speedtest.net over wifi on their phone - we can remove 15-20ms for the wifi latency so they probably getting around 20 - 25ms? Asking them to do a tracert over cable might be a bit much.

Mine is still 38ms via cable (not over wifi) so I'm pretty sure it is Vox, and not SADV, that is the problem.

Also, the neighbour's internet was down Monday and Tuesday while mine was fine. Both on SADV, so I think these ISPs are just kak. Sigh. Nobody cares about good ol PE.
 
If you going to cancel then try go with an ISP that is active on the forum, they can help troubleshoot more

eg Cool Ideas, Rocket Net
