Gift from the UK

Hi, a bit of advice please

My friend in the UK gave me his old diesel heater (yea i prepare for winter in summer, when you in a wheelchair and on SASSA things tend to take time) , he told me i just just figure out how to get it to me, so down the rabbit hole i went, ITAC permits, Import licence and who know what, FOR A GIFT.

Please do you have some advice

surely the shipping and duties alone would cost more than the actual item....

Just ship it as a gift then there are no duties and taxes as the onus is on the foreign donor. They will ask you for your I'd number to register the gift to you.
Thats all a bit moot though as the shipping will be very expensive.
