Must be due to an upgrade, call Screamer directly.
Glad to hear you're happy with Neotel, HTP but I must say I have not had problems with my connection for quite some time now and to be honest am quite happy with my connection.
In fact,I've said it in the past and still am glad I stuck it out with Screamer and will remain so for as long as they can provide me with the service they are currently doing.

I called this morning - the office was aware of the problem. They had no idea when we would be online again.Have you tried calling them directly murray654?
When it came online, that was when I tested the connection.
Apparently the local agent was at a high site repairing something, so my test is not really showing the true picture.
Also the upgrade that Howzit mentioned has not happened yet:
When that was posted, and on the same day I got an e-mail saying software upgrade would happen on Friday. My hopes were raised.
This is my mistake: The "router controls and central computer systems" mentioned by howzit will be a seperate upgrade, being hardware.
But to clarify everything is working like it did before the software upgrade, so it is not a downgrade. My mistake.

I know how frustrating the situation can be, I used to feel that way.

1500 milliseconds international latency is unacceptable. You may as well sit behind two satellite links at that kind of latency. Clearly you "upgrade provider" is underprovisioned. 1500ms latency isn't contended. That's CONGESTED.

I am not sure why you have decided to pick up a comment made by this client that is well over 2 months old
. The intermittent problem he/she had was rectified and the more recent quite from the same client below is more indicative of their experience.21-04-2009, 08:24 PM

Still going strong here ... Screamer WiMax is working out so well for me that I really doubt I would switch to ADSL when/if Telkom get more lines in the area.
(Telkom's infrastructure project in my area was originally due to complete in January and has been push back to June)

I have sort of skipped through this thread, I wonder if anyone can give me some info first hand about using Screamer WiMax at the highest speed possible playing COD4?
I live in Craighall Park, Sandton and have received an email from your sales team to get the ball rolling. Before I start to go ahead etc, I play COD4 online thats it. I don't play WoW or even do heavy downloading. So all I care about is latency and packet loss. Any chance anyone here in this thread has any first hand experience?

I can maybe offer a little bit of insight. I had my service installed last week on WiFi as I don't have LoS to a WiMax tower.
For the most part my experience has been good, I've had couple of teething problems with the link that are still being sorted out.
When the connection is up and running it is perfect, really good latency and always get my full 512kb.
I currently have a problem with the connection intermittently having no internet access, doing some testing it looks like every now and then I lose around 11 packets which causes any downloads or games I may be playing to disconnect, during the same period my pings to the base station are going through.
I've logged a call and sent Howzit a PM, I'm quite confident that the problem will be solved and when it is the link will be perfect.

As I mentioned, as well in another thread. I play COD4 at a pretty competitive level, there are no ports for ADSL in my area and there is no estimation when it will be upgraded for me to get a line. As such I may have to go with WiMax. But again all I care about is packet loss, and latency.

Mostly dota and wow with a little CS every now and then.
My pings to the mweb servers are sub 20ms, what server are you playing on? I can do some tests for you quick

Hey Silver, Im not sure if you have COD4 but here is a server that I frequent often and will give me an indication of what it would be like playing on the clanbased servers.

Unfortuantely I don't had COD4 and the SGS gaming server can't be pinged unfortunately.

Been having the same problems - and been offline since about 5pm today. I don't even have wireless association to the Bryanston tower. Can't seem to get an answer.
I have noticed an increase in lost packets. Been sitting at 1% approx. for the last two weeks or so. They are working on the problem but have had to revert to the Alverion.

Okay im going to say this because none of you seem to have the ability to see it youselves.
Wireless and more specifically screamer in this case is like an abusive spouse, secretly deep down inside you know they wont change. You want to believe that it will change but you know its not going to.
Stop spending your life hoping the connection is going to get better because it isnt. Just get over it, accept your mistake and move on to ADSL or even 3G. You guys moan about being slow or not even connected at all so often and I think to myself every time, weird im on my dsl line at the moment reading this and having no problems at all.
Its just my 2c, use it - dont use it.

What I dont get is how a fairly big company like screamer cant actually get their network right when all of the WUG networks(which might well have more users) dont have the same problems.

Yeah, until your cable gets stolen and you sit without a connection for 3 months while Telkom decide to even listen to your complaints, or a lightning strike hits your line and takes out your equipment, or any electrical storm makes your connection flaky, or your 1mG service becomes a 128kbps one, thats assuming you ever got 1Mg, etc. Screamer is by no means perfect but then neither are ANY of the service providers but at least when I have an issue they get someone out to me within 8 hors if they can't fix it over the "air".
And finally, as I have said many times on this forum, it takes guts to take on the incumbent suppliers and try and provide competition which drives service levels up and prices down. Just look what has happened in the last 12 months. I am not saying it is all because of Screamer but the very fact that certain ISP's are prepared to deploy their own networks and provide alternatives makes the monopolies sit up and take notice.
Imagine a world of Neotel and Telkom ONLY and then decide if you want to try and stand on the independents before they have had a chance to blossom.
There is a fairly big difference between a network that is used by a couple of mates to play games and share files and an industrial strength network providing internet and voice connections to clients, some of whom have only just learnt to switch on a computer.
One day the Wuggers will accept that there is space in the telecoms market for both types of network without looking at the licenced ones with professional jealousy.
