Home-Connect ISP Feedback

Like you state, the lan ports are limited to 100mbps. So your wan port is probably 100 as well. Limiting the output to 100mbps as well. Your fastest point is only as fast as your slowest port.

They sent me their bigger model because i went for the 100/100 package. They should have sent you the stronger router from the start.
Thanks for that... I did not think that far :) Kinda logical.
Just a thought, though: (Sorry if it's a dumb question) Why would the router itself be capable of WiFi transfer rate of 300mbps on 2.4GHz and 867mbps on 5GHz if one can not get that speed INTO the router?

maybe you have stuff shared on hdd? anyway, that 300mbps claim never reflects in the real world.

Like wingnut says, 300mbps never reflects true speeds. The 300mbps can be for any wireless lan usage, sharing files over a network et c. Doesn't mean it's 300mbps, so it's pushing 300mbps to all the devices in the house.

So I received my brand new Tenda AC8 Router on Wednesday morning. Couldn't wait to get home to plug in this 'super duper' machine with the amazing wifi range, etc. First thing I checked was to make sure I now get my 200/200 speeds as per what I pay for... Did a speedtest and sure, speeds are just under the 200mbps up and down.
I walk to the kitchen 7 meters or so away (where the previous AC6 router had 100% wifi signal with virtually no losses). Oops, lost the 5G signal, and the 2.4G is barely visible. Do another test - nope, I get about 30/30 speeds.
Now I am confused, as this router is advertised as having the 4 x 6dBi high gain antennas, vs the 4 x 5dBi antennas on the AC6 router.
Long story short, this router (AC8) has the worst wifi range/strength I have ever seen, it literally drops the connection to my phone if I walk away to fast, or put a wall between me and the router. I had a wifi range extender connected to the AC6, and it worked like a charm - with the AC8 router I barely manage to connect to the extended wifi - most of the attempts I actually get a 'failed to obtain IP' message. The wifi signal is extremely unstable, and keeps dropping/reconnecting. I played with the transmit strength of the router as well, and (what a joke) all three settings LOW, MEDIUM and HIGH gives me exactly the same results - so this setting seems to be a software setting that shows up on the Tenda App, but really does nothing.
Can anyone recommend a router? Should I just fork out the money and go for the higher Spec Tenda router (AC11 or something?)
I am now considering if I should go and get back the AC6 router, which had great wifi range, stability, etc. and downgrade to the 100/100 fiber connection.
Any advice please?

I got myself the TP-LINK Archer Vr300. Also expect great wifi and toataly shocking. 5Ghz does not even give me full signal at 5m to my skyworth binge box.

Ditch all these garbage AIO ISP Provided routers and get a Unifi AP or 2 - problem solved

300Mb/s is actually 150 up and 150 down, and is theoretical throughput in a perfect environment, in really you lose 30 to 40% because of overhead etc. you will be lucky to get 100Mb/s on 2.4Ghz. The same rules apply for the 5Ghz band. If you want Wi-Fi all over the house, use Cat5/6 and cable remote AP's or get a good mesh system.

I hear you wingnut, I just wanted to point out that the AC 6 router covered more than sufficient area, but the AC 8, in contrast, looses signal when I move more than 4 or 5 meters away from the router. This does not seem right.

i use an app on my iphone called wifi-sweetspot to check for dead spots, and on pc to check wifi channels: https://www.acrylicwifi.com/en/wlan...oftware-tools/wlan-scanner-acrylic-wifi-free/, also try keep router as high as possible. hope this helps.

Horrible service and I haven't even started using them, cannot provide an update on fibre order regardless of communication medium used!

Anyone else seeing these ping waves? or is it just me.
Comparing others on Frogfoots network with different ISP's. Seems to be me and that IP with the spikes is Cipherwave.

My internet speeds are pathetic on MF. I logged a call with them a few min ago can't even run speedtests. Performance on their network has been generally poor for the last 3 weeks for me. Can't use real debrid on Cyberflix or Kodi. Buffers endlessly. Thinking of resorting to nzbs now

make it rain 5G.

Do they have black friday?
Would like to know as well.

Every Tom Dick & Harry is jumping on the Black Friday bandwagon except my fibre ISP.

I would take a line upgrade at a discounted price.
