HP Pavilion dv6920ei Entertainment Notebook PC

Howzit man!

With Vista you can install any version from any disc. Your key determines which version is installed.
 
Two things: Firstly wherever you get the Vista install from it must be the HP OEM version or it wont work with the CD Key you have. You can't use a Retail Disk with that CD Key.

Secondly, my girlfriend has a DV6500 and she was having some overheating problems after 2 years of use. I stripped down the laptop and cleaned off the heatsink fins as they were clogged with 2/3mm of dust so the air wasnt getting through properly. If you have had your laptop for more that a year or 18 months I would suggest doing this if you have the expertise. HP is really good with their service manuals. You should be able to get one off their site and it has step by step instructions for pulling it apart. You can also find guides on the internet which are quite good. Just be gentle/ careful.
 
I should have a copy of the OEM version today. If you wanna pop by and get it from me some time.

Partially correct. It will fail automatic activation, but you should be able to activate it OK by 'phone ( 0801434343).

Heres a pic of the fan/heatsink on the later HP DV6 series - gaming will only see it getting to mid 80's with spec's in my sig...not the same problems as the DV**** series

If so it shouldn't be getting that hot....try installing Core Temp & see what it says - i idle 50's - gaming - 80's if those specs above is what you got we have same GPU & mine is in a DV6 (15inch) housing not DV7 17inch...Your processor should run if anything cooler than mine being a P series.

With regard to Ubuntu,when i 1st installed 10.10, my fan was running so hard the laptop was about to lift off the desk - i found you can download ATI proprietary drivers which calmed everything back down.
