The issue with gmail seem to have been resolved. It was a problem on an upstream provider which iBurst had no control over. It appears that this was also the influencing factor for the incoming mail speeds encountered by certain non-iBurst pop servers.

If all else fails, blame the upstream provider and wash your hands of any blame...
