Firstly I would like to thank Turiko for the speedy delivery of my iBurst modem, got it 2nd hand from him in excellent shape, it works perfectly.

It took iBurst 15 min to activate my account today (public holiday) which was really impressive. Speed so far has been far superior to the HSDPA I've been using.

I'm really happy with my connection, since there are no other alternatives besides HSDPA, I think I'll stick with iBurst.

I've had disconnects all during today, even a message on their switchboard saying outages on base stations around the country.

Guess you only use it to check your mail

Nope, I've been online the whole day... damn facebook... only got dosconnected twice, but my IPCop firewall brings is up again in 5 seconds, so no issues.

That's what I also said during my first few weeks/months with them. Trust me, you won't be so impressed once they start to disconnect you every 10 minutes, provide worse than dialup download speeds and have Intl latency well over 800ms.

I haven't been disconnected all day, I can use whatever services I want to with only minimal shaping, I haven't been disconnected whenever I try to download a file, pages don't time out half way through, I can buy bandwidth at a third of the cost... oh wait, sorry, I am on ADSL.

What were you thinking signing up for iBurst after you've obviously read this forum?

shame it's his only available option...

Shame now I feel bad for him... I guess if it's your ONLY option then it'll be adequate.

I'm on the phone to iBurst Retentions now. I held on for about 5 minutes so they're obviously busy. I've had to repeat everything about 500 times (including my reasons for canceling).

"Were you aware that iBurst offers ADSL?" Yes, I was, but considering how well the wireless side of things work and how badly they have treated me as a customer they can shove it.

Yes, unfortunatly it is my only option.

But I don't see how a service would start out good and gradually decline... perhaps some towers are more problematic then others... So it would then be sencible to compile a list of iBurst users, the tower they connect to and the problems, if any, they experiance. (of course this only applies to connection issues, not their shoddy accounts dept.)

I'm on the Roodekrans tower.

I'm on the Langenhoven Park tower in Bloem. This tower is the slowest of them all! Don't ever think about getting iburst!

Hopefully this will chase all the people away from my tower :D

~sigh~ I remember the good 'ol days when I first signed up with iBurst and everything was all peachy........

Just ask any user of iBurst how things can go very pear shaped with this company.....and here I mean in terms of ALL services offered by them.

I signed up with iburst/wbs in it's second month of pilot... needless to say their accounts department was non existent from the beginning, the service was nice and super fast until they implemented the CAP! then things just went down hill from there!
Cap of Death was the in thing, then came the continous authentication problems... then came the tower problems which they had to get some Japanese enginneers here to fix... then came modem problems, continous disconnections. Now I can't seem to keep my downloads running longer than 10minute without it killing my router connection/disconnecting.

So I've made a decision as of November I will no longer use this ****ty Iburst service.

Agree with all the posters above. iBurst is a feasible solution if you can not get anything else and don't rely on quick downloads. I took up iBurst again since Telkom took too long (>5 months) to install a copper-line (which they didn't).

I have now re-applied for ADSL as international lag and lack of backhaul capacity (and tower-oversubscription) does not deliver the level of service they advertise. My story here: http://www.naschenweng.info/2008/09/23/iburst-fix-your-broadband and here http://www.naschenweng.info/2008/09/30/iburst-still-no-broadband

"Before we blame it on international traffic being congested, how come that ADSL- or 3G-users don't have this problem."

When I used Vodacom 3G to connect at 1.8Mbps on my current market Japanese HSDPA (3.6Mb/sec)
phone I get lousy transfer rates, even worse than iBurst. Pages and files take longer to download
both locally and overseas. Before you blame it on the phone, this is best phone FarEasTone has available
in TW and the second best SoftBank still offers in Japan. My iBurst maxes out at 114KB/sec though.

Shame I feel sorry for you, no really...I also had a sunny outlook about iBurst the first few weeks...Until, well that I will leave out, but I sure wish you the best of luck. One tip though, keep an eye on that bank account of yours, you wouldn’t want money disappearing. O and also keep an eye on your bandwidth, iBurst's bandwidth apparently has legs. ;)

hehe, the account iBurst takes it money from was opened just for them, so I only ever put JUST enough money in there. And i monitor my own bandwidth with IPCop, and thus far iBurst has not cheated me.

Nice one, good thinking.

Trust me, your day will come. They snarfed a double-debit from me last year, this after being subscribed for almost 3 years.
Oh, and make sure you get everything in writing, if they say you owe them zilch, get account dept to send you a PDF statement... these documents come in very handy when taking them on, and you will need to use hellopeter.com to ensure you get their attention.

Oh, and it helps if you have a good attorney on retainer.

ya but from my understanding if he cancels his iburst then he'll most likely close that bank account... Great thinking

Sheesh I was just filling in an application form for IBurst, but after reading this thread I'm not so sure.

I didn't want to get tied down to a 24month contract, but with the ridiculous prices of the modems(1820? --- me thinks we are being ripped off?) out there, I decided to apply for the 'Playa' package.

After this thread I'm scared...what would you recommend I go for instead?
