Inverter/battery combo advice

I have a 500w inverter with one 102Ah battery and my setup last 3.5 hours. (never tested it till it dies).

47" tv, soundbar, subwoofer, NAS, IP PBX, DSL Router, Switch, IP Telephones, o and Explora.

I'm looking at powering a similar setup as above for 2 - 2.5 hours twice a week ... I need to add my PC to the equation as my whole life revolves around it (quite literally).

Which figures should I use for calculating PC power consumption? Idle power or peak load or do you use the power supply's rated output ????
Lastly, can you run a PC off modified sine wave or do you need pure sine wave?

I run my Tv, Monitor, Amp, PC, HTPC and 4 lights of a Modified sine wave and there are no issues at all.

Regarding the pc, i used maximum values for my calculations, i have a tong tester, so I tested each component, and gave each a good "workout" while measuring.

Then i took the values and worked out how big my inverter should be, and then how many batteries suppose to carry the load vs time
 
Thanx, rather safe than sorry. Using the upper end of the full load spectrum I'm getting close to 500W needed so I'll look for an inverter in the 750W - 1000W region just in case.
 
sorry I know this is a really stupid question but I see 12v and 24v being mentioned here. specifically for chargers, is that for 1 vs 2 batteries?

Try #1# on your prepaid meter if it supports it

Dont have a prepaid meter :)

Also, dont plan on going off-grid. I'm renting, so I only want to keep my IT goodies up and running while the lights are off.

My router and telephone are in the study where my laptop is. My primary concern is to keep that up and running. So I can at least connect to my wifi and keep working on my laptop and keep making calls.

Probably going to need something small, one battery will be enough.
 
Just a quick one.
I tested my batteries today that are connected to the inverter. They are showing 13.5 Volts each and 27 Volts together. The ones in the garage are sitting on 12.6v
Is that not too high?

The ones connected to inverter are on Float.
 
I unplugged everything and tested them separately. I guess I should let them stand for 24 hours?
well if its normal then that's all good :D

Its called the home UPS range and there are various sizes from 800va to 8kva. I spoke to a techie called mike and the sales person was rani.

Its obviously pure sine wave, the output on mine is 1600w with 2400w surge.


Thanks John, most appreciated.:) I called on Mantech in CT...asked for their expert in UPS/Inverters etc...left there feeling I was being led around in circles...all he was trying to push was the most expensive set-ups they had... and definitely not knowledgeable re what I needed for what my typical use was. Very sad, seems the guys in Jhb Mantech are right up on this, I will contact them to tell me what to ask for down here in CT and hope CT have the stock!!
 
All these threads are so confusing. Can't there just be a reasonably priced system that you can buy off shelf to power a few appliances:-(
 
I have found them very competitive at the time. But they do not deliver. Also rather phone before, they might have a bug lead time due to the Loadshedding and demand
