iPhone 14 discussions

You seem quite confused as to how forums function.

This isn't a private channel so you and Dolby can have a private conversation...
This is precisely how forums work...someone posts...someone else replies.....are you sure that you are not the one that is confused perhaps, because you are literally doing the exact same thing with me. So stop being a wise-ass and keep it moving.

Anyone can reply to any post, genius.

If you want a private conversation with an individual then send a PM to them.

It’s best @Dolby *doesn’t* read the below thread, lest….

Wow, this seems to be an even smaller improvement than A14 (12 PM) to A15 (13 PM) was, they truly are chasing more efficiency now, I think the big gains are in GPU and ISP.

Honestly, the A13 in my 11 Pro Max was great, in fact I know someone who went from a iPhone 8 Plus to 13 PM recently and their main reason was that her 8 Plus was just falling apart aesthetically and also didn’t have enough storage but it ran just fine with it’s A11 chip, she never complained about speed, but battery life was becoming an issue now that her 8 Plus is about to be 5 years old.

Here’s my take
iPhone 14 pro from 13 pro … not much of a generational leap. Some funky notch software animations … thing is battery was already great camera already great. You not going to feel a lack in the iPhone 13 when comparing to the 14. It would practically be the same phone

The sos emergency thing is a nice feature but when you consider this looks like a proper staffed out service from Apple with bums on seats waiting for those messages … then errrrr …. Ok (it is a paid for service at the end of the day) … let alone a South Africa implementation (!? … ha) … also let’s not forget to consider if this will work smoothly off the bat … don’t want to be pointing towards the sky for a satellite lock for hours (was interesting to note all the “subliminal” caveats on this feature in the keynote )

Would have been nice to see a new design (this iPhone 11 design is long in the tooth) … no usb c … no inscreen fingerprint sensor (or some other clever authentication system)… just feels like a skip for me (this from someone having the iPhone 13 pro max since launch)

The ultra watch is something new something different and something intriguing … it looks good. But the use case over a 7 or 8 for most is not there … would I buy one!? Maybe cause something shiny and new … but I’m not a smart watch person … rather the money towards a snoopy omega or a submariner Starbucks … cause it ain’t going to be cheap locally and I wonder how many garmin people will ditch their watches for an almost r20k Apple Watch !?

The AirPods I think is the most appealing reveal despite it looking the same like previous iterations. Yea different colours would have been welcomed (a black AirPods would be great). But the better noise cancelling and better battery are tangible things in ones daily life that will be noticed

Pricing … I think we in for a shocker. With the current rand dollar people plus the overseas markups, one needs to start applying for those bank loans for all these products …

Yah I’m waiting to see how much the Apple Watch Ultra will cost locally, my series 3 defo needs replacement soon (when I say soon I mean over the next year or so).

iPhone is on the right

Takealot also loads slower - that's not data. The Apple guys say it is the fastest but RAM management / battery management / poor coding / developers is the limitation, hence it is slower. So fastest / slowest.

This Android came out about the time of the A12 - and here's a history of the progression of A series chips :

A12 - Apple states that the two high-performance cores are 15% faster and 50% more energy-efficient than the Apple A11's, and the four high-efficiency cores use 50% less power than the A11's

A13 - Apple states that the two high performance cores are 20% faster with 30% lower power consumption than the Apple A12's, and the four high efficiency cores are 20% faster with 40% lower power consumption than the A12's.

A14 - Apple states that the central processing unit (CPU) performs up to 40% faster than the A12, while the graphics processing unit (GPU) is up to 30% faster than the A12. It also includes a 16-core neural engine and new machine learning matrix accelerators that perform twice and ten times as fast

A15 - The A15 contains 15 billion transistors, a 27.1% increase from the A14's transistor count of 11.8 billion. It includes dedicated neural network hardware that Apple calls a new 16-core Neural Engine.[8] The Neural Engine can perform 15.8 trillion operations per second, faster than A14's 11 trillion operations per second (+ 43%).[8] The A15 also includes a new image processor (ISP) with improved computational photography capabilities.[9] Apple also boosted performance by doubling the system cache to 32MB

Can we at least try to keep this discussion about the upcoming 14 - as per the thread title? Or must you try your best to destroy every thread you enter because you are starved for attention?

This - very much this.

I'm with you 100% here. I'm also on the 13 PM and the 14 launch left me a little wanting. Some YT commentators made some interesting observations in this regard: If they go balls to the wall on the 14, they'll have to do something even more impossible on the 15 next year. I guess it's the same for all phone manufacturers - evolution rather then revolution. I'm going to pass on the 14 as none of the "improvements" will have a worthwhile impact on me. It was the same when I went from the 12PM to the 13PM - I thought I would find the ProRes stuff useful but that got nipped in the butt when I realised what a mission it'll be to get that large footage off the phone.

Regarding the watch I'm with you there as well. I'll rather put that $800 towards a nice Speedy than a brick on my wrist. But I suspect we're in the minority here.

I too was not bowled over from 12 to 13 although that change up had the macro lens and the high refresh rate screen … this time around the change is even less of a thing … it’s properly going to be like “I just spent all this money to have the exact same phone”
