Only speculation on my side. But yeah - as the techcrunch article pointed out - we're gonna have to start thinking of the 5C as the new 5 and the 5S as a new premium range or something - especially in SA with the R/$ being what it is.

IMHO... Seems to me that the iPhone 5C is just an iPhone 5 with a new plastic body so that retailers with stock of the iphone 5 don't have to drop the price too much as is tradition with the previous model. Kinda clever especially since the iPhone 5 will no longer be sold by Apple.

If they are planning on taking on the East with this phone they need to drop that out of contract price, or set up logistics with a lot network of service providers to provide it at the same price.

Maybe I don't understand, but why would we pay the same amount and get a plastic phone?

In other news, the Lumia 620 is now $99 (prepaid - no contract). So you can get one color for each day of the week for the price of the 5C
