iPhone not a smartphone ?

This is totally random, but needs to be said..Fsck all you Apple Haters! If you don't like 'em, atleast they caused YOUR cell manufacturer to up their game with cooler phones, and cheaper prices.
PS: I have had nokia's all my life - never had a problem with them. but in this case, Apple rules the roost. you know it be true.

d0b33 I totally missed this post of yours. Are you now on 2.0? I'm still running 1.4 on Ziphone (unlocked and jailbroken). Did you unlock 2.0 with Ziphone as well? Where did you do the 2.0 upgrade? (I did not upgrade my iTunes in the fear of having an iBrick on my hip after syncing!)

I'm on the latest(2.0.1) with the latest iTunes using pwnage(thanks to the dev-team) on OSX but these are the instructions for windows...

  • XpressMusic beats the crap out of lockedown Ipod

  • N82 and a whole bunch more has accelerometer and light sensor.
  • Not only the screens last long but the whole phone does.
  • 65% of the smartphone market runs Symbian so the 3rd party apps more than all the fruit products on the face of the earth.

You might be right, but I'm SO tired of seeing the same ol same ol Nokio 'today' screen....I think I'm gonna be sick. And they all look the same. From E90 to N95.

I want something new. :)

I have to wonder why you spend so much time researching and posting about the iPhone, when you're so happy with your Nokia?

Oh for that I can fully recommend the iPhone :) it's something "new" alright... You will definately have a LOT of "new" things that will make you SO tired :D

It's been in the pipes since before the iPhone - yeah, nokia does not have the fastest RnD team I admit. And, as I have said before, the fruit is the one that ripsoff - first they did Xerox and now Nokia. So, even if the Samsung Omnia and Nokia Tube are ripoffs I guess it does not count if fruity did it first :D

Do you make up these facts or can you actually back them up?

All I have to say is different strokes.. I tried the n82 a few months ago but got bored and am satisfied with my choice in the iPhone but if you prefer the Nokia why should I argue against it? we live in a free country with a freedom to choose don't we? :rolleyes:
I like Nokia phones btw and would keep one as a spare.

With regards to your Xerox statement that you keep pulling out your ___

Apple were invited to Palo Alto to view the Xerox OS they did not steal the GUI blatantly, Microsoft were the ones stealing the GUI from Apple. :rolleyes:

Fruit people think fruity and thus buys Apple - and the world needs its fruitcakes I guess. So yes - for some the iPhone is a Smartphone (it is smart in their framework of things atleast).

2. It's apple software
3. It doesn't have anything Microsoft (LOVE IT)
4. It's a phone, internet device, and ipod
5. It's the first phone I have had that still entertains me after a month.
6. I had an HTC and it's ****. Simply put. The windows OS is ****.
7. Call me a fanboy but apple is better than anything else out there.
8. COMPLETE touch screen, I don't give a rats ass about qwerky or how ever the hell
you spell that. It's completely touchscreen. THAT's THE POINT!
9. ALL the others are taking from apple and making it better.
10. I don't give a **** about the 2 MP camera. If I want pics I will take it with my 9 MP
camera, why the hell else did I buy the camera for if I want to take pics with my
phone.
11. It has 16GB storage space. Show me any phone that comes close to that.
12. Most of the haters here talk about things the iPhone don't have...most of them are
fixed with a simple APP. The mms and video recording is fixed with an APP.
13. Millions of ppl contribute to the installer application. A whole community of ppl
writing apps and helping each other out. Show me any phone that has that support.
14. Regardless of what anyone says it's about what you as an individual like and im really
not gonna let someone tell me what I do and don't like. If that makes me a fanboy
then so be it. At least I don't suffer the blue screen of death every night or have to
take my phone in for repairs every other week.

That's it, all I have to say. Now let the flaming commence.

BTW I only unlocked my phone ONCE! and that was in the early days of Ziphone!

Hehehe - I wondered how long it would take an educated (read TopGear fan) person to pick up on that on. The smiley emoticon with shades was the closest I could find to the Stig in his helmet.

Anyways - jokes aside - I think I should explain myself. I started this thread to debate whether the iPhone is a Smartphone despite all the stuff that is missing from it as highlighted by die GSM Arena review.

The finding so far is that yes - it is a Smartphone according to some people. As no clear measure exist to define a Smartphone you end up with a situation where one persons Smartphone is another person’s "dumbphone".

Also, I am not a fanboi of anything. I hate fanbois. Yes, I love AMD and always buy AMD based PCs - but I will not dis Intel simply because it is not AMD. If someone asks me about an Intel PC they want to buy I will give them advice on what Intel PC will work for them. Besides, Core2 is pretty sweet.

Same goes for cell phones. Sure, I have had Nokias for almost 10 years now and I will only use Nokia, but if someone talks to me about an SE or Samsung I will not play it down as crap just because it is not a Nokia. If it weren’t for them then Nokia would be crap because it would not have good competition.

The only reason I am going off about the iPhone is
1) apple fanbois (well apple to begin with – I hate apple – but that’s personal so it is out)
2) too much hype (really I am sick of hearing of the iPhone, rather make some iDust from it)
3) the price (see my love of apple in point 1)
4) and this is what flipped me into ANTI-mode : the severe lack of everyday features that makes smart people question the Smartphone tag being added to the iPhone

But - that is my stance on things (and those that agree with me). If you want an iPhone, sure go and get it - and if you are a fanboi - enjoy it, I suppose you have the right to be a fanboi. Just keep in mind there are people like me that will pounce on you and having a neutered product like the iPhone in your bag-o-ammo is gonna make it so much easier for me :D

Lastly - yes - I would buy an iPhone is the price justifies the features. I will pay R1000 max for it. :p
