Herotel mostly concentrates on the smaller towns that are not serviced by any other FNO, hence they have a low churn rate as there are literally no other choice for fibre users.
 
In my small of Mookgophong (Naboomspruit) Limpopo, the fastest ADSL we had was 512kbps for years, then upgraded started to 1mbps, 2mbps and fastest 4mbps. After years to come, we got 10mbps then VDSL 20mbps and 40mbps.

Then beginning 2021 Vuma started rolling out and late 2021 Herotel also started. They are both live and offer excellent service.

Mobile infrastrucure on Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and Telkom Mobile was also upgraded to 4G and Fixed LTE. Now Openserve has also jumped on the bandwagon, started to rolling out fibre.

I have heard that Frogfoot are also coming to town 2023. I do not know why we have so many FNO's wanting to offer services here, but it looks like if 1 starts in a specific area, more follow that increases competition and drive down prices.

From nothing to everything overnight, but why and why did it take so long
 
Remember when WebAfrica was the cool go-to ISP? I had the MyBroadband special ADSL package for years! But I am getting old because that was a long-long time ago before the founder left. Happy with Cool Ideas now, hopefully they will keep being cool!
 
Afrihost has been incredibly great for me. Web Africa had a great promotion and I made the jump. Worst decision Ive ever made!!! Im part of the customer churn and proud if it!! What a nightmarish experience at Web Africa. I'd rather pay more at Afrihost. Let the churn continue to they decide to make a change and improve their service.
 
My household signed up for fibre with Afrihost and the process was smooth. Vuma technicians were in my house around 24 hours after signing up, and we were live relatively quickly. They worked fast and efficiently, and used the same holes as our old DStv cables instead of drilling new ones.

WebAfrica had a promo and I thought we should switch. Worst idea ever! Three months later and we never ever went online once, but they kept taking my money! WebAfrica have the most incompetent, lazy helpdesk and technicians I've ever dealt with. The only way to get assistance is via WhatsApp chat and one Friday I was on standby from 9am till 2pm before a human was available to respond to my WhatsApp chat. Ticket after ticket, WebAfrica blamed Vuma then they blamed Afrihost... It was everyone else's fault except theirs, even though I was shown that WebAfrica never took my fibre online. One tech even did troubleshooting for an address completely different from mine. That's how bad it was.

After tolerating their nonsense, I ended my contract and took the early termination penalty. Good luck even cancelling/ending your contract with WebAfrica. They deliberately don't include any way to do that from the client portal. I had to ask Mybroadband users how to cancel my service!
 
I am with HeroTel in Pretoria on their aerial fibre on a R499 for 50mbps package with Openserve and Vodacom fibre installed the gate of my house and still they have best service to price ratio

Not complete true, I am in Pretoria in one of the oldest areas and we have HeroTel. It might be because they went the aerial fibre route instead of the traditional route.

Which area? Didn't know HeroTel is in Pretoria. My parents are also very happy with HeroTel down there in Jeffreys bay.

Cannot really say, small towns are dead until someone take the plunge and invest in infrastructure and aquire the wayleaves. When the network is up and running, then everyone jumps on board and layout their own networks.

I have a 200/200 fibre connection on Vuma that I use for streaming, IPTV, downloading and gaming, and a 50/50 connection on Herotel that I keep as a backup in case Vuma fails. We only had a few hours downtime in the last year, so I say Vuma has a very solid network here.

Forgot to mention that we have a few WISP networks here as well. So we have enough bandwith here to last us a lifetime...
 
only reason I haven't already churned is Octotel is the only FNO in my street
- concerned about switching to fibre if it is with them
- don't think it's worth the trouble of switching ISPs to just stay on VDSL, if I switch it must be to fibre

...which is why I said mostly and not exclusively.
