LCD and Plasma Bargains and Discussions thread

jah boet, it's a headache for me as well. That LG is R12K, and its Samsung equivalent is R16K. :erm:

Yeah I am very keen on that one. The LG also has IPS display and that is meant to make a nice difference in picture quality.

These are the two I am trying to decide between:

LG 50"

Samsung UHD 50"

Am I correct in thinking the only difference will be 3D? (Besides FHD vs UHD).

I wish I had the extra cash to go bigger but I don't right now and need a new TV. I could possibly go bigger by buying a different brand (Hisense, Sinotec etc) but at those prices I think it is pretty good.

Yep. But for the same price, you might as well get the UHD one?

Yeah that was my thinking too. Just not sure how I am going to break the news to my kids when they look for 3D. But price wise, makes more sense to go for UHD at this point.

they already see in 3D. if they complain, a smack goes a long way to silence them ;)

Yeah I suppose.

The UHD is looking more and more tempting to be honest. Just need to read up on how it will affect sport (if it does negatively in anyway with upscaling).

Also, the Samsung has "PLEX for Samsung" afaik the LG does not have the PLEX app, nor does the Hisense.

And, i just a week ago paid R11499 for that same TV and am very impressed with this TV.

Not too worried about that as I use Plex on my Roku.

And picture quality on normal DSTV (sport mainly). How else do you consume media? I just don't want the picture to look weird while trying to upscale ect.

Only have my HTPC plugged in, and and XBOX 1, (I have a Blu Ray player set up, but i only use that for sound through Home Theater) And all graphics and media through both HTPC and XBOX 1 is amazing.

Do not have DSTV so i cannot comment on that. I have PLEX set up through the PLEX App from Samsung store, and that looks awesome.

OK cool. Yeah my main use will be Netflix, Plex, Sport and XBOX One.

I've got a few brand new PS51F5500s FULL HD 3D Plasmas available.
Price is R11995. PM me if interested.

There are no more plasmas left, only a Samsung and LG 60".

Unless you want to phone all the retail stores.

These plasmas are worth far more than their selling price. Take advantage of the market being taken advantage of by the LCD lie, in turn lowering demand and price for plasma.

What are your thoughts on the Samsung PS51E550D1R

I have one for about 2 and half years now. I absolutely love it. I use mine for DSTV, Xbox One, streaming (mainly Youtube). If you can find one, then definitely go for it. I bough mine back then at Makro for R8 750. Similar specced LCDs in the 46" range was R11k+.

Wish I could get a 60" one for living room.

Ok that sounds great. Those are basically the same uses I would use mine for. Out of interest what would one go for roughly over a year old second hand?

I have not seen any of them secondhand to be honest. In one of the earlier posts someone had the F5500 which is basically the follow-up to the e550. Think tee price was R12k for it.
