Whats a good Samsung around 50" and what should I pay for it now?
I want a bit bigger than my current 46 Sinotec

Cheapest is the Samsung 51'' 3D HD plasma, but it is EXTREMELY reflective.

If you want to put it in a dark room in your house, it's the best bang for your buck.

If you are talking about this model, PS-51D550 51, i see its around R8k, I can fortunately spend double that if that gets me a much superior telly/better option.

No I'm saying there are aspects which we can compare between CRT and flat panel, besides the obvious definition and size benefits and greater experience therein of flat panel.

Your answer would lead people to think flat panel tech is completely superior! Sounded like what you say Apple fanboi's are like. ;)

Well he can only be talking about the PS51D490 as he mentioned "HD". :p

PS51D550 being FHD...

Anyway, your budget would afford you the UA46D6000 LED backlit LCD at around R12k.

Or you could look at the PS59D550 59" at around R15k. ;)

I think the cheapest you'll find 55" (next up from 46") LED backlit LCD is R20k+.

Thanks, i dont mind the sarc, I really dont get all the different options on tvs these days so am just trying to get something decent, hence why i ask.

I strongly suggest getting a bigger TV as part of your upgrade. It won't feel as good if you're just replacing a 46" with a 46". Isn't the Sinotec 47" anyway, so you're going 1" down... :erm:

Not really offering much over the D6000 LED-LCD, besides ultra thin bezel/stand and 200Hz. The D6000's 100Hz is good enough, according to Roman hardly a difference.

Also must be careful of non uniform lighting typical of narrow LED-LCDs where they are not only prone to suffer the usual LCD edge bleed but now also prone to suffering from light spots around the screen. This is a problem if you have a dark room, and plasma's uniform blacks would be superior.

Ok well just got a 55 series 7 ES7500 for R28.5k.
More than I wanted to spend but fuggit :D

Sounds like a great price for a 2012 55", 2nd from top-of-range. Where from?

Also once you've put it through its paces, would be interested in some views on features & performance.
 
I got it from Hirch's in Hillcrest DBN.

They said they only received 1 each of these in 46 and 55".
The 46" they have will go for R18.5-R19k
They said Ballito also has/had 1 of each.

Just got it going now, setup wireless network and its connected, busy looking at all the thingy's :D
Picture on HD channels looks spectacular. Still need to fine tune it a bit for everything else though I think, will put it through its paces over the next few days and let you know.

Off to watch some rugby ;)
