Not really. Depends on purposes. Eg. Tim doesn't even use his for TV. "Amazing awesome great TV" can be misleading.![]()
Haha... You like Tim a lot don't you? Just arrived at Makro Germiston now. Itching.

Sooooo, on Friday night I got home and the microwave stopped working. Ended up at Game on Saturday afternoon to get a new 1. I showed the wife a white 1 with all the necessary features but the wife decided she needed a metallic 1 with mirror finish for whatever reason. Anyway, since we were at Game I decided to check out the tv's. Showed the wife the LA40D550 on special, she said it's R500 more than we can spend. So I said, well, we should also take the white microwave and save another R200We ended up getting the Samsung LA40D550 and free DVD player for R5499, as well as the metallic microwave
Must say, the feed to the display tv was terrible, I almost changed my mind and got the Logik for R4999 because the picture quality was actually quite amazing on it!!! Luckily the salesman was helpful and swapped the feed and showed a much better quality picture on the Samsung!!!
And the Samsung 51cm CRT tv will be donated along with the free DVD player we got to 1 of my wife's aunts who is watching tv on a 37cm (yes you read correctly, cm) black and white tv.
The picture quality is amazing! I tried out a SD video of a soccer World Cup match, no blurring, no issues at all!!!

Nice bundle price.
So what are you Going to be using the TV for?
I hope you don't have any tennis/golf videos.![]()
PS3, SD/ HD videos, SD/ HD DSTV as well as being used as my pc monitor.
Watched the tennis final yesterday and it was also fine, no blurring or anything. Don't know where you saw that on low end LCD![]()
HD PVR helps a lot.
Suppose the rest depends on the person.
Standard SD dstv decoder, almost bought the HDPVR from Game on Saturday, but decided not to. Will be getting 1 at the end of July or August.
And you right, I'm sure it depends on the person. Guess I'm lucky cos even wearing my glasses I see no blurring or anything weird.
Either that, or the engine on the new D series is very good.
Interestingly enough, I've found that SD channels looked best through s-video and scart on the older model decoders with those outlets. Better by some way than through HDMI. But the HD channels do kick butt of course.Well worth it, even for the non-HD bouquet as SD channels look so much better via HDMI.

Well, I went in with a one year old, broken Sinotec 47" FHD LCD and I walked out with a brand new Samsung LA46D550.... AND R200 change!!!!... (R7999 refund on the Sinotec, Sammy was R7799 on special).
I've always been a staunch proponent of the cheaper Sinotec's and their outstanding 5 year warranties but this Sammy is just lights years ahead!!! Bloody marvelous!!!
Must say though the after sales service I got from Sinotec was superb!! They made every effort to sort me out and when they could not they issued the credit!!! A big up to them!!!
So this is the tv that was R4999 at Makro, without the DVD player? Here's hoping that it comes around at that price again... in hindsight, i guess i could make use of a free DVD player so I might as well get the tv if it's on special again at R5499 bundled with DVD player.<snip> We ended up getting the Samsung LA40D550 and free DVD player for R5499, as well as the metallic microwave![]()

Its standing right here in my room!! Im just catching a breath after moving the tv inside lol!! I bought a screw driver and will assemble it now. Now I need some help please!!!! I need to connect my dstv to the tv, but I dont know how to!! There is two white cables coming from the decoder, one is the tv areal, and then there is another one which has a splitter on and that one is also in the decoder and then the white cable from the splitter goes into the tv. I also have this black cable with white / red and yellow things on. What do I do - where do I plug what in please!! I just need to connect the dstv first, then i will tune the tv. Oh, is there any specific setting I must use please?
Thank you in advance.
usually bigger is better! but i donthink it was in your caseHey Sandman! Thank you so much! Hmm, I didnt use the red white and black cables, but I did manage to put the tv together lol and plug the white cable into the tv. My dstv is kinda blurry - the writing on the yellow text blocks looks like the words has shadows. Im going to call a technician tomorrow. But, if I use the RCA cables, will that make a difference? I have to say its SOOO much better than the almost grey tv I had - and yes, If i was to take the 37 inch it would have been way to big. God, its like having my own cinema in my room!!!!
congrats![]()
