LCD and Plasma Bargains

Careful, you are going to have all the plasma fanboi's crying and telling you how even that is more awesome than an LCD at 1920.

More like rejoicing in the fact that HD and FHD are 99% indiscernible from viewing distance. You obviously sit within 1.5m from your screen. :)

Why LCD at 1920x1080 and not plasma at 1920x1080? 50" FHD plasma for R10k that creams any LCD at the same price might I add. ;)

Just got my hands on a Digital Experience booklet and they have the 50C430 for R7 795

If i am reading this right.
If i am 10 feet away (3m), on a 32", there is no benefit from 480p and 720p and greater,
on a 40" to 50" screen - no benefit between 720p and 1080p and greater.
Interesting. (need to then buy a 55").

Then if i am 5 feet away, there is a benefit between 720p and 1080p on 40".

So it all depends on how far u are sitting...
I usually sit 10 feet away when watching TV, 5 feet when playing games, both in lounge, and 5 feet away in bedroom.

yo, I see Hifi corp has the sammy ps50c430 for R7999, while game is quoting R8500. If I go to game, will they match it, or will they match AND take 10% of the difference off? And do I need a written quote, or can I just take a flyer along?

You get 10% of the difference in price as discount - so about R50.

Yes, a flyer will do.

Gogogogo!

Perhaps phone and reserve first.

They have some good prices and the service used to be fantastic.

Sadly though, it seems to have gone down and I won't buying from them again.

This Samsung 50" is HUUUUUGE :D :D :D I got it for R7999 at Game after price match of HiFi Corp's special.

Congratulations PostmanPot, you've got another forumite on the plasma team :)

Is it normal to have some IR during the burn-in period?

Yes, it's the period most susceptible to IR. Although Samsung claims break-in is not required with their new plasmas, so there are two schools of thought.

Still, keep your contrast and brightness/light levels at 50% during the first 200 hours, in case. Most of us still break-in. Light and contrast levels play a big role in IR. My room doesn't have much direct sunlight, so I'm able to keep those settings low. Never had one bit of IR on my screen. :)

Enjoy!

How are the power requirements on the newer plasmas?
I remember the older ones used to drain electricity.

You could say almost all electrical appliances drain electricity :D

But afaik it's much better than it used to be although LED/LCD tv's still use less.
