LCD and Plasma Bargains

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the LG's ... in fact I think their motion processing is actually a little bit better than Samsung's. I do however know that some Samsungs have very good media players built in and I have no idea whether LG have them or how good they are, so that is maybe just something to keep in mind.

Since I was shopping around yesterday and looking at a massive wall of screens all playing HD... the quality difference between the actual picture on a Samsung and on an LG are neglible.

I ended up going with a Samsung LCD simply due to its connectivity options which were better than LGs.

On a vaguely related note, but not at the same time, I wish manufacturers would produce a bog standard TV without the media players, and wireless, and and and in terms of options of playing media. I want a screen that will take an input (preferrably over HDMI) and display it as best it can.

I'm with you on that one. Give me 4 HDMI's and nothing else and I will be happy.

Yup.. 4 HDMI's, and yes the requisite old school connections like Composite and such... but i don't need USB, or Wireless, or LAN, or any of that stuff...

No one is slating LG's picture quality. People just prefer Samsung because they are the most popular, sell the most, best documented, etc. I have seen plenty of excellent LG plasmas. Oh, apparently Samsung menus are better. Must say, the current Samsung plasmas' housing is fantastic, as well as build quality.

Fact of the matter though is that getting a dud that breaks soon is totally luck of the draw. Really says nothing about the brand. Sure, after-sales service does, but perhaps there is a legitimate reason for it? Often if you simply speak to upper management, you will always get your way.

At the end of the day, LG and Samsung palsmas are both great, equally as good most likely. :)

Samsung's service and quality in PC LCDs is definitely superior to LG's, I guarantee you that.

I have to disagree here on some points, sure, Samsung is more popular, But I can guarantee you the menu’s does not look better, I helped my brother setup his plasma back then, and even now when I bought my Samsung, comparing the two, the LG really does have the superior GUI, it has a superior build, it just has an overall quality feeling to it compared to the Samsung
If you put the Logik and Samsung plasma’s next to each other, and you remove the badges, you won’t know which is which, The whole housing is just poor compared to the LG
Look, I have nothing against the SAMSUNG, at the end of the day it’s the image quality that matters most and I can’t complain about that. I probably just have a dud

At the end of the day, all I really want to say is, if you are plasma browsing (like I and a lot of other people on this forum did), don’t just pick the Samsung because everyone has one, compare the LG with the Samsung. Samsung always had the upper had being +- R500 cheaper that the LG’s, but it’s a different story now

Are you comparing plasmas "back then", or plasmas now?

Yeah, the Samsungs are only R200 cheaper now for 42" plasmas under R5,000. :p :D

LG 42" = R4,999
Samsung PS42C431 = R4,799 (Tafelberg, Cape Town)

Yip, mine was advertised with an build in Media player, actually an Build in HD media player. I sure was upset when I found out it can only play music afterwards

Not here in Gauteng, cheapest Samsung around = R5500, and the LG = R4999

If it was at Gauteng, yeah, sure, but i have no idea if game in Gauteng will drop their prices because prices in Cape town are cheaper

Oh, you want a Pioneer KURO ... doesn't even have speakers (has amplifiers for stereo, but you pick whether you want the addon speakers or not)

Pitty they don't make em anymore

Yeah I know that's what I want or something like it, but they're a bit out of the average mans price range unfortunately...
