LCD and Plasma Bargains

Well the tv will be used mostly for gaming and movies. Sport as well...I know this is an "entry level 3D" but for the price I think it's worth it. Dion wired played a crappy 3d space demo and they didn't have any other feeds connected. Just wanted to know if you guys have had any first hand experience witht this set?

Then this is for you. R3,000 cheaper, 8" bigger, better for SD content (normal avi/divx movie rips), better for sport, better for gaming.

Makro has the 50" Samsung plasma for R6999.

Thanks, will take that into consideration, I just worry that my sun filled lounge is way too bright for a plasma.

I'd go and have a look. Because even LCD's have glossy screens these days.

Remember to stand at viewing distance.

Also check out the C450 model, since it has a better anti-reflective coating, as well as extra HDMI port, USB media player that plays HD rips/mkv's, and other better features.

Hello guys, Dion wired has the LG 42lx6500 for R9999, comes with a pair of glasses. Special is available til tomorrow. What do you guys think?

http://www.lg.com/za/tv-audio-video/television/LG-led-lcd-tv-42LX6500.jsp

Its 200hz edge lit LCD and 3 yr warranty.
The 3D on it is pretty good, better than movies, but you sort of lose quality when watching 3D vs. normal blu ray.
Glasses are expensive and mot much 3D content, unless you import from amazon (free shipping until 15th May).

C450 plays mkv?

Hey PostmanPot
I've had the samsung 42c450 for about a year now with about three firmware upgrades (now on version 1011.2) but yet the media player still doesn't play mkv files from my external hard drive. Is there some trick to enable it?

Not entirely sure. Haven't tried myself, as I have a HD media player. Have you tried lots of different mkv's? Could be an issue with certain mkv's.

Can u play others files.
Is yr HDD Fat 32.
Also your MKV files maybe too big.

I never believed in waiting, but the LCD/Plasma stuff is worth waiting for. These discounted prices will be normal prices in 2 months or so.

Exactly. And trust me, whether you pay R6,999 or R7,999 for these 50" plasma's doesn't really matter. They are worth more like R9,999 IMO.

All I'm trying to say is I wish I had the money now. I would have driven to Makro already.
I can't afford a PC and a Plasma in a month.

My HDD is a 2.5" 500GB Seagate NTFS formatted
Was thinking of reformatting it as FAT32 so I can play through my usb on my HT which doesn't like NTFS
Its posssible that the mkv files are too big! Will check when I'm at home.

Thanks

You MKV files are very possibly too big.

IIRC Fat32 maxes out at 4GB file sizes.

Best way to play mkv is through Xbox and Computer via Media Center. I stream all my 13GB HD MKV movies through my Network with no problems.

I want to buy a new LCD TV because I got a DSTV HD decoder yesterday. I set it up last night and the HD channels really don't look good on my old Mecer 37" LCD.

I have seen the LCD/LED/PLASMA debate and ever more confused.

I can't go bigger than max 42" as it's in a wall unit.

The TV will be used for:
HD DSTV
PS3
BLU-RAY

What is the best option right now?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Makro had some LED Sinotec's on a special a few weeks back dont know if they do anymore.

I got my HD PVR and DSTV installed yesterday. I have the samsung 40". I think the product code is LN40C530.

It looks amazing on the HD channels but horrible on the SD channels. I have to say not SD sport channels look bad but also other channels such as music look equally as bad.

I'm planning to get a plasma soon as I cannot fully enjoy DSTV with this current config.
