LCD and Plasma Bargains

Hey sn3rd. Got the screen crystal clear now and colours seem accurate too. Besides a bit of my own fiddling, the biggest improvement was renaming the HDMI/DVI port to DVI PC. Screen really feels like a PC monitor now and I can't notice any input lag. Will give more details when I do a review as I said above. I'm 100% satisfied. :)

Of course, the test now will be SD TV and sport... :p :D

Cool - that DVI PC setting should give you 1:1 pixel mapping (no overscan), so you get the full Windows desktop visible.

Somewhat related... Just picked up my new 32" LCD... Yes LCD... Obviously not for SD TV/sport. :p Gonna be for PC. I am very lucky to have gotten the SQ02 panel - which is made my Samsung, which is the best. There are 2 other panels they use - one from Autronics (Axxx) or something which is in the middle, and then from Chinnei (Cxxx) or something which is the worst panel.

You lucky sod. I'd bet this just landed in your lap at a great price out of the blue....

Amazing how these LCDs all differ because Samsung uses different panel manufacturers. They call it panel lottery.

Will be hooked up to a AMD HD6850 Toxic via HDMI. Hope it's decent for PC and games. Wish me luck. Will review soon and obviously compare to my 42" plasma. ;)
Cool, price and model? Full HD? OK, so one can tell from the sticker on the box before purchasing, awesome!

Samsung LA32C550.

Sticker seems to only be on the right side of the TV.

Weren't we talking about plasma for you though?

I am considering the LG425500, any thoughts on this LED FHD TV? What's the best price for this at the moment.

Alternatively, does anyone know when the Samsung 5 series LEDs with 100Hz will be released locally?

Anybody got their new Samsung D TV's yet? I've ordered mine and they say delivery will be Thursday so I'm wondering if anyone has one already and how they are finding it?

Where did you order it from and which model? I've been chatting to the guys at Cats Digital, Sounds Great and the Samsung store (want the D6000 or the D6600) and they all say stock should arrive within two weeks.

Cats digital in greestone mall have the 51D550 for R12999 and have one displayed but I know that's well overpriced. The guy at Hirsch in Meadowdale said he could do it for R12200 and would get stock this week. An electronic shop I know offered it to me for R10999 but his delivery was in two to three weeks. In the end a friend of a friend who is a wholesaler is giving it to me for R10200.

We need to know what you'll be using it for first. :)

Yeah not sure really, but you should be able to find it closer to the R4,000 - R4,500 mark elsewhere.

Otherwise there is also the LA32C530 which is said to be good for PC.

Not sure what the differences are, besides the design. Could be that the USB media player is better. Oh, now that I think of it, I think the C550's have an extra HDMI port. Looks to have more ports in general.

Xbox, connect to PC over VGA (play movies and games), play movies from USB, play movies over DLNA.

In 1 or 2 years down the line DSTV HD but not currently

Tough one. 100Hz doesn't seem to be a necessity but of course is nice to have and does come standard in the mid range LCDs and up. AFAIK the Samsung's have better USB media players.

What's your budget? I'd try really hard to fork out for a 6 Series Samsung LCD or LED-LCD or the LG equivalent. I'm not sure what the LG equivalent is, but I think the xx5500 could be on the same level as Samsung 5 Series - which to my knowledge doesn't have 100Hz. Does the LG have 100Hz?

Just watch out the LED and screens and any TV with 100Hz will increase input lag, which is a problem if you using it as a PC screen. I found the 5 series the best as it has nice features and anything it can't do your GPU should be able to do the rest.

So yeah, oh PS Postman my screen panel was an AA version.

The old Samsung 5 series were on special 2 weeks ago for R6500 and I nearly bought one until I saw that it didn't have 100Hz. Looking back I probably should have bought one but now I can't seem to find them for that price anymore. Curious to see how much the new 5 series ones will go for. Ideally I would like to stay within 7.5k.

LG 5500 has 100Hz, according to reviews the black levels aren't great though and there is some blurring... Hmmm

Did not know that, surely you can switch 100Hz off though for when you don't need it. Would in the input lag disappear then?

That's true, 100Hz must be disabled for PC use.
