This is wrong. Its not for all SA consumers...only for those that are Cybersmart ADSL customers so its more of a bundled service than a free service.

If you count bundled hosting too then MWeb should be there too...they've been giving ppl bundled "free" space for years.

The article also mentions Unlimited Hosting, which is presumably supposed to be Hosting Unlimited. The confusion is further compounded by the fact that both http://www.hostingunlimited.co.za/ and http://www.unlimitedhosting.co.za/ exist. (http://www.hostingunlimited.co.za is the company the author meant)

The article writer could have added extra features in the tables, like cpanel, domains and subdomains allowed ect.

From what I have heard from friends and seen on this forum, is Gridhost one of the best hosts in SA. The CEO is also very active here on mybb. I would definitely host my future websites on Gridhost, for their competitive prices, features and support.

I assume that this refers to Linux hosting, and MySQL for the database?

When will we get competitive Windows hosting with SQL Server 2005+ ??????
 
Problem is still hosting a busy SA site at a SA based data centre. Large sites still cheaper to host offshore. Have a site that uses 170gig of traffic a month - and cannot get anywhere near competitive to the offshore cost.

Have to agree with you there. For the small guys these offerings are great tho.
 
I see some of these hosts only offer 300MB traffic ?! You must really want to be unpopular if you use that kind of hosting.

For the last 5+ years I have been really happy with Host4Africa - they are efficient and very fast on their email support.
My sites do 8GB~21GB of traffic a month and for R9.99 that is amazing value for money.

Local hosting is for the weak.
 
I think that people should be more worried about the service and support of the product. Otherwise if you go cheap and problems arise, you are just to blame as the provider.
 
The one is a PhpBB3 instance with a 25 MB database (Since Jan 2010) and it does a 8GB a month. It does not host any images apart from the forum theme. Average page loads are 7200 (per day) from 1500 unique visitors (per day). Most are European based (44% UK, 24% Germany) and there has been no complaints about the speed. That does give some indication about the performance of Host4Africa - even on a R9.99 account.

The other one is a membership based picture site, not as much visitors but the content does push the traffic up.
