I have a M2 Pro 16". Why does MS Office take so long to launch on my machine? It takes about 11 seconds to open Word and Excel. The demo laptops in the iStores open Word in 1 second flat. Chrome browser is also slow to launch at about 8 seconds. Safari browser opens in about a second on my laptop.

I have an Office 365 subscription and I downloaded Office from my Microsoft account page.
What is the problem here?

What version of MacOS?

Possibly/probably the fact it’s checking and signing in somewhere in the background whereas the ones in the store are likely left signed out maybe.

Never timed it, but also actively avoiding using Microsoft **** if I can help it.

But also, you surely do this once in a blue moon only so what’s the real underlying concern? Unless it’s slow to operate who cares about how long it takes to start.

Do you have any AV installed? If not, backup and reinstall from fresh.

I'm not sure but I have all the latest updates.

I will check this out.

I thought something may be wrong with my machine. I find all my Apple apps open within a second but all other apps take long to open - about 8 to 12 seconds. Chrome, MetaTrader, etc. all open slowly. On Windows they all open within a second. This is bugging me on MacOS.

It's slow on my M1 Air as well. Microsoft don't care about MacOS. Took them 20 years to add more database locations to Excel. Luckily I can refresh my work spreadsheet now since this year.

But how is it that in iStores it opens so quickly? Go into an iStore and check one of the demo laptops.

I'd imagine your version is checking your subscription is valid and active. I've got an M2 Air with a lifetime subscription I got from @i-Tech Solutions and I just checked word and Excel just now and they both open immediately.

You sound like you are new to MacOS.

Are you sure the apps are actually being opened fresh and not just that the windows is closed with the app running in the background?

MacOS is designed to have apps open at all times and close their window managers only.

If you are in the habit of closing apps by pressing Command + Q stop doing that immediately.

Suddenly you will find all apps open instantly.

Where did you download your Office from?
Do you sign-in to Office?

Check this section of the forum....

@i-Tech Solutions sells a few different options, older MS office versions up to the most recent etc. Pick the one you want, he sends you the code and the download link from Microsoft server, and off you go. Put the code in once and that's you sorted.

I restarted the demo laptops and opened Word and Excel fresh. It took a second to open.
On my laptop if I open Word after the first time it does open within a second but not on the first open.

Is your SSD maybe full?
