Mweb = consumer terrorism

Think how Rudi Jansen must feel he spent all that time building Mweb into a proper business only for that Derrick dude to screw it all up in a few months. I would love for mybb to do an article on that

Agreed ... But worse is the ''I dont give a f.. '' attitude. MWEB couldnt care a hoot for their customers anymore .... if they did, they would LISTEN and ACT on what their customers want.

It has always confused me how they can advertise that a line is uncapped, when clearly it isnt.
You pay R899 p/m for 4mb uncapped but you have a 40gb limit???
If memory serves correct, that's called cap. So if you use 40gb then you get capped.

So technically and theoretically, Mweb is false advertising and leading customers under false pretenses, which in other words is against the consumer protection act.
Its just a matter of time before someone takes them to court for being a punch of lying thieves

Exactly! The reason we pay for 'uncapped', is so we can use a large amount of data (whether that be downloading or streaming). They throttle the line to 256kbps all the god damn time, which renders the service a useless Gmail only connection. Surly this violates some kind of service agreement, since you can no longer use it the way it was intended. We need someone with the cojones and law acumen to represent us poor victims!

You know what pisses me off? All these mweb customers complaining and things have been up to schite for months but they don't change ISPs. I have zero sympathy for you people. It's like you are into S&M and you enjoy the biatch whipping your balls! This is getting really old, you have so many other options to chose from...

I moaned, and I changed my ISP.. I couldn't do it immediately because of the fact that it was an ADSL all-inclusive deal, which means I had to get the ADSL back onto my Telkom account. There was also the budget thing... 2013 was a very tough year, only in November did things suddenly come right for me.

A final word on ISP.. it is up to you to evaluate them all and choose the one that best suits your needs and doesn't shape according to you.
I believe any ISP other than MWEB is already a move in the right direction.

*UPDATE
So I phoned Mweb tech/support department, to esquire as to why I am being throttled again so soon after I was throttled (1-7 dec and 13 dec -current). The gentleman on the phone stated: "Oh, no you have only been throttled this morning". Of course that was a load of horse excrement, so I informed him that I new otherwise (looking at my account everyday and seeing the dreaded "throttled"). To which he then replied: "but you have used 8gb since the last time you were throttled". You can imagine my seething wrath at this attempted 'justification' for throttling me to 256kbps AGAIN! He then said: "You used 80gb + the 8gb for a total of 88gb over a 30day period. If you don't wish to be throttled, then don't use SO MUCH CAP".

I won't type the remainder of the conversation that revolved between the gentlemen and myself. The gist of it was that I argued that on a 2mbps uncapped account, I should be able to use more than twice that considering my connection and that constantly using the data usage of the last 30 days , would only force a perpetual state of being throttled!

Mweb it has been said countless times but I will echo the thought of myself & many other customers: Your so called service is nothing more than unseasoned tripe that has been left to rote over the decaying good intentions that were entrusted to you by your now defunct customers.

People don't be conned into using Mweb as an ISP. It is frustratingly difficult to cancel with them and there are faaaaar better options else where. I was duped and have to live with this frustration...Don't make the same mistake many of us have!

^ This is the average speed you can expect to get on a 2mbps 'uncapped' with Mweb

They measure your usage aver a 30 day period but every time they throttle you, they don't reset your cap 'limit'. What does this mean? This means that say I used 60gb last week and they throttle, if I use 20gb this week they will throttle me again!

Struggling to digest this bit. If they aren't refreshing your "cap limit", which generally leads to an unthrottle; how are they throttling you again, or better how are they throttling a throttled service?

I now have to still pay for the WHOLE of December and January! Typical pseudo 'legal' tactic used by shady companies to punish those who dare leave. 10 min to sign up but two months to leave...

Not sure why this cancellation process is still needed in this day and age, but your description pretty much hits the nail right on the head, for what I've assumed it's purpose to be.

"If you are going to use such a HIGH amount of data then you should get the R1199pm uncapped, unshaped 2mb data package"

tl; dr: If you want a premium service; just pay for it, so your higher than average usage won't affect other paying standard subscribers.

No.

Your out of bundle options, or options after you've depleted your monthly allocated cap are:
  1. Pay per megabyte
  2. Local use only
  3. Being throttled
  4. Pay extra for a "no limit" service

It's all in their T&Cs for customers to read, before and after signing up.

For the sake of disclosure; here's an extract from Mweb General T&Cs again:

It's most likely done this way to ensure you're the actual account owner.

Is that you Derek?

Sheesh... I am so glad I am rid of this crap....
With MWEB it takes days to get connected. Openweb took 6 hours on a weekend/public holiday. And no paperwork. I hate paperwork.

What is the odds that ole Throttlebug is reading this thread... No, wait, he's probably gone overseas to Austria to let the wife and kids experience white christmas.

Relieved and glad I'm not an Mweb customer anymore. They must be the worst ISP in SA - Any other ISP will probably be better than them.

LOL ... :D:D:D You articulate that so well.....

Me - well I am an ex MWEB customer. I have the scars on my balls to prove it.

But now, I am an MWEB troll according to some - but I like to think of myself as a helpful bugger.;)
Yep, I am one of those special breed of guys that reads these MWEB complaints, and then goes allout to assit my fellow net users. To show them the error of their ways.

Like you, I try to show them that MWEB is confused between capped and uncapped. That MWEB forget who pays their salaries. That there is life after MWEB. But most importantly ... THAT MWEB IS SCHITE!!!

I just breezed over this, do you understand the concept of a rolling 30 day period?

The cap is not a hard reset, if you've used more than 80 gig's in the last 30 days you will be throttled, this is not a calendar thing, its the last 30 physical days.

So when you were unthrottled and used 8 gigs, you just caught up with your 80 gigs in 30 days again.

That said, if you want to hog downloads, MWEB is not the ISP for you, they gear their policies towards better real time services.

Mmmm - 80 gigs can be chalked up quite easily without "hogging" anything. Throttlebug Hershaw admitted this openly.

I think MWEB gears their policies toward those users who pay too much for too little. By MWEBs own admission, they want folk who read e-mails and browse. If you game, stream, download or do torrents .... you dont fit their profile.

Definately not the ISP for this fellow.

Just how am I hogging downloads? I hardly think my usage based on a 2mbps uncapped line could, in any realm, be considered alot.
What are these fabled "better real time services", they are not service delivery, customer support or competitive pricing? You must be an Mweb troll. This is a serious problem for many users and my self, so next time you want to make whimsical claims, please provide some proof. Oh and Mweb can take that 30 day usage crap and shove it up their filthy corporate a$$h0l3!
