Hi
I have been an Mweb customer for a few years now and have always had a bit of a rocky experience with them, whether it be atrocious customer support or archaic account management policies.

I must admit, I have hit my absolute limit of the amount of blatant abuse Mweb is forcing me to endure. As of the past few months, they have been consistently throttling me to an absurd level. I have a 2mb uncapped line with them and they constantly throttle (the entire connection) to 256kbps. As you can imagine with this speed the is nothing you can do, besides waiting a few minutes to go through your Gmail/Facebook.

Now you are probably wondering: "What is your internet usage?". Well, if I hit any where between 40gb to 80gb, they will throttle me to 256kbps for the entire week (sometimes more)! Here is where the problem really begins: They measure your usage aver a 30 day period but every time they throttle you, they don't reset your cap 'limit'. What does this mean? This means that say I used 60gb last week and they throttle, if I use 20gb this week they will throttle me again! Don't you dare insinuate I am a liar because it is happening to me. I have phoned countless times to the ''technical/customer support' and they tell me that I am throttled based on 30 days of usage. I am in a perpetual state of being throttled. I usually only get between 4-7 days of reprieve before they throttle me again!

Of course I am canceling and going to give Afrihost a good o'll college try, but since I made the decision on the 2nd December, I now have to still pay for the WHOLE of December and January! Typical pseudo 'legal' tactic used by shady companies to punish those who dare leave. 10 min to sign up but two months to leave...

Mweb of course blames me, the customer, for all this stating: "If you are going to use such a HIGH amount of data then you should get the R1199pm uncapped, unshaped 2mb data package". They are putting an absurd hard limit on their 'uncapped' offerings that I am just so incredibly jaded to any of their 'offerings' and wouldn't be surprised if that 'offering' was also throttled...

Please don't use mweb if you plan to do anything more than looking at your gmail. They are a greedy, corrupt and consumer terrorizing based 'business'.

Short answer: Cancel your MWEB, go to another ISP. Would you like me to recommend one?

If you're angry, vote with your feet/pocket.

You'll find no sympathy for ANC supporter mentality here lol

:)

But seriously, I feel your pain, especially since you're paying more than average. Go telkom for both line and ISP, then cancel and just before they cut you off, they'll phone you and offer you 25 percent discount to stay. I'm on 2mbps uncapped and paying R399 for adsl and uncapped together now.

I would appreciate any recommendation, since I have two months to think about it :(
Preferably an ISP which doesn't throttle. I heard Afrihost just shapes but I am worries that is just a technical term for throttling...They said they would only 'shape' P2P and not any thing else, so I can game and Youtube with full line speed.

Great now go to another ISP, pay more for getting throttled and shape. Why do people still bitch about it, why not just stfu and move on?

*Fudzy - I was downloading about 80gb - 120gb per month

*ajan - The purpose of posting this was to inform people about a serious experience I had with Mweb. This was done for the explicit purpose of letting others know the dangers of using them as an ISP (when you pay for poor service that is serious!). I am curious as to why you believe I would pay more if I go to another ISP? Since Mweb is one of the most expensive ISP's available.

I had enough of Mweb and went OpenWeb. They shaped and throttled my connection so bad during the day it was barely usable. This for a 6mbps Gold package!!! I went Afrihost 6mbps Business and never looked back. Clock between 800GB and 1.2TB per month and my connection is flawless 24/7.

Clearly not as much as MWEB.
Oh, god I hope not. Mweb throttles more times than a serial killer.

Mweb is one scaly business, in order to register: you just sign up with a newly created account (after payment of course), input username & password into your router and you are good to go in 10min.
However...
If you like me and are sick of their disgusting business 'tactics' and decide to cancel them, then be prepared for an adventure more terrorfing and twisted than Frodo & Bilbos tales!
Despite being on a month to month payment scheme, you will have to pay your current month
+ the next month with NO prorrata. If you thought that was bad, just wait: Remeber what I said about signing up online in 10 minutes? Well if you want to cancel, you have to phone their billing and account department (Good luck getting through!) and ask to cancel your account. They will then POST (using 'wonderful' SAPO...), then you must physical sign the document with various personal details and then POST it back!

This is clearly a bull**** delay tactic, forcing you to get frustrated with needless lollygagging. They want to punish you...This is clearly a scheme devised by 6 year olds.

DO NOT USE MWEB!

In the end who is there to trust but ourselfs...

I'm very happy with Telkom 4mb uncapped but I don't use more than 50gb.

You can email or fax the cancellation.

They are scum though. Will never ever use them again.
