Mweb Throttling Bull

I notice MWEB are editing their Facebook page much better to HIDE the throttling complaints, and if you mention throttling you run the risk of being banned from commenting .....

These guys don't get it .... The more they try to hide their throttling the more the resolve to make it known the rules for throttling are simply not clear enough.

This evening I posted links to this forum on 4 other FB discussion circles.

I for one will continue to warn consumers of this throttling so that they can make an educated choice when finding an ISP.
 
I would like to see their facebook "likes" to go down. You would be surpprised how many companies watch them like hawks. So if you have quit, are quiting or have an issue with Mweb unlike their facebook page. That is something they cannot delete lol lets see if we can push them below the 20 000 likes they are so proud of :)

Errr have you not read it has nothing to do with monthly stats but the 30 day rolling window sigh!
To be honest this is my first throttling ever and my month usage so far is 64gig, last month was a 102gig. Was not throttled last month... So it has everything to do with the 30 day rolling window. They can unthrottle you today and rethrottle you tommorrow depending on if you hit the magic throttle number.
As they do not tell you what it is you are stuffed. uncapped has become capped. Worse still the throttling is punative. Normal web browsing becomes near impossible an effective denial of service until you meet the magic number to be unthrottled.
Sadly however, this does not mean you see speed increases when you are throttled. They still have the so-called shapping as well where p2p falls at the bottom of the pile.
I think the real problem Mweb has is simply before they could blame p2p people for the problems.
Now however simple game downloads from steam can push you over the edge. As more and more people use steam, netflix etc they are finding they cannot meet demand, ergo throttling. A desperate attempt to stay afloat because they do not have the infrastructure and capacity to meet consumer demand. even MwebGuy told me on facebook all my downloads were legit not torrents etc yet i still get nailed with the same brush.
As Telkom are about to launch netflix soon my guess is Naspers (mweb, mnet and dstv) want to make sure you do not have the bandwidth to utilise those services.

Yet you don't post your 30 day rolling windows data used but choose to complain.

If you did 64GB the first 15 days of this month and I am guessing 102GB/2 last month you are about capped on 115GB 30 days rolling window. This is helpful to other users if you tell them what package you are on.

What Mweb package are you on?
Also are you on premium uncapped or just standard uncapped? If you don't know how much do you pay MWeb a month?

It varies per package. Mweb has multiple packages. People are not posting what package they are on making it just pointless complaining.

I see you are having problems seeing the big picture here...

UNCAPPED SHOULD NOT BE THROTTLED!

All the other ISP's shape certain protocols like P2P when you reach a threshold. This means you can still use the internet for browsing/Facebook/Youtube even when you have downloaded half of the internet. MWEB throttles the line to sub 56k speeds and they decide when you have exceeded their limit. This limit gets made up by dividing unicorn poop by yeti eyebrows and changes daily depending on how much gold the leprechauns gathered last night.

My account with Afrihost is shaped at the moment because I downloaded a lot last month and I am fine with that. P2P downloads are running at about 25kb/s but I can still use the internet.

It is a 1meg standard account :) which initially put me onto the theory that they throttle on 4.5gigs a day threshold. Which means looking at my downloads for 30 day window I should be unthrottled tomorrow.
But upon looking at the monthly stats it looks like I may have been throttled twice before this month and a few times in September but I had just assumed it was just normal bad internet services in general. So having examined my stats closely I am even more confused than before. Lastly I am incredibly annoyed that they never once sent me a warning letter. The more I think about what they have done and the fact that if i had noticed in September already what they were doing I would not have to remain with them until the end of November.
Wish I had paid attention when everyone else was complaining. But as i recieved no warning letter I assumed I was not part of the 3% of abusers. :D

Thanks for the prompt answer, so a Premium account is basically just your basic account. So why call it premium, it implys better service when ifact it is not. Guess just symantics. But what is interesting is if you read the advert they supply under full specifications it mentions nothing about throttling is mentioned. More importantly under the yellow/orange bullets at the top it says Gaming is prioritized on the MWEB network.
Further down it states data is uncapped. It has a very small reference to the AUP. But not once in an advert do they mention throttling. They actually have the audacity to mention the difference between the two and I quote "Shaping is aimed at traffic classes as a whole whereas throttling is aimed at specific users who generate above average usage. A shaped service gives priority to normal web browsing, email, online banking, social networking services & online gaming"

A reasonable person would read that to imply we do not throttle?

The normal accounts spawned from the premiums; it was mweb's answer to everyone demanding cheaper uncapped. HOWEVER if you look closely then the sign reads "same old ****, but rebrandend". Especially if you compare normal, premium and small buisness uncapped...

MWEB has 3 products, Standard, premium and unshaped

pity they have no product between premium and unshaped. I would sign up for that on launch.

The R339 includes the line. I see now he will be paying 199 as he gave the the data only page. I had R339 at some point. I am now keeping my 4096 line by MWEB

For every person who utilizes his line 99% there are 100's that only use 1% of it's capacity.
