MWEB Uncapped ADSL and shaping

THe slow down and shaping is a direct result caused by the excessive downloading of torrents by greedy leechers.Take comfort in the fact that you greedy bandwith fuks are destroying the experience for everyone else.Well done.
Well if you don't have anything to download go get yourself a capped unshaped account and we won't bother you at all.

PIGS

Dude, people pay a LOT of money for their Internet, they should be able to use what they pay for in whichever way they want. Simple as that. Nobody tells you how to use your Internet, so why don't you just let the ISP worry about the heavy users, ok?

Edit: Sorry, I was trying to be nice, but seriously, you're an a$$

getting 40kb on P2p o a 4 meg line, that's not shaped

PIGS

Looks like a post specifically created to upset people, not very nice. Also not very informed, Mweb is very much aware of heavy downloaders and therefore employ shaping during the day to combat excessive downloading and maintain a great quality of service. Heavy downloading therefore does not interfere with daytime business operations and at night heavy downloaders compete between each other for downloading bandwidth. So if you do not download how can any of this affect you?

The slow downs to normal browsing lately was caused due to technical problems and not downloading, ask any downloader how was their experience during this troublesome period and they'll quickly tell you it was very slow.

And there is never any cause to go call anyone names and especially in red capitalized font.

Are you deaf or blind? During the day they shape torrents and nzb's. If you don't like it go find another uncapped solution.

if i wanted your apinyan i would have farted,

MWEB explains that there has been no increase in shaping. “No we are not shaping more at all. To the contrary we are allocating more bandwidth all the time to P2P and other non priority traffic.

Mweb itself tries to palm off blame onto heavy downloaders by claiming that they have a finite amount to go around. In fact that's why they claim to shape and throttle. It's very much an own goal when in reality, Mweb is incompetent in managing this system.

Rubbish about "no increase in shaping" and "restored since the weekend". Since Friday I have had little to zero connectivity to AstraWeb (news). I still have under 6kbs and it does not improve after-hours. MWEB's nntp server isn't exactly stellar either (70kbs), and access to SAIX/IS is reserved for their customers. So, so much for local alternatives..

I don't really understand what you are pointing out here in relation to killadoob's post. Are you insinuating that MWEB does not shape at all? Because that is not the case. If you read the sentence properly it says they don't shape MORE than they shaped when the service started. Shaping has always been in place. It just means that if (rough example) they shaped all P2P traffic by 50% that they aren't shaping it by 90% now. It's still shaped regardless.

Yes that's because there was a SEACOM fault and their capacity was reduced. If you paid attention to the numerous threads MWEB have started during the time then you would have known why your torrents and newsgroup downloads were being "shaped".

You highlight in nice black text mweb saying we are not shaping more at all. MORE let me repeat that MORE. I am actually not sure what your point is though :D, they are not shaping more than they have been bright spark.

Since the start of uncapped they have said during office hours p2p is the lowest priority. This has not been hidden, they did not try do it in a sneaky way. They came out and told us. After hours you have full speed.

Just incase you never noticed the MORE in your post :D

Well im very happy with MWEB, but i think MWEB is starting to throttle me on http? The moment i go over 3GB for the day, download speed drops to 250KB/s which is not bad, but i think there is still a form of shaping/throttling done...or am i the only one experiencing this? Please, im not complaining, im very happy, im just wondering if someone else is experiencing this?

Everyone leave and find another Uncapped service. More speed for me and killa :D

Hahah bring it!!!! :D

Http seems fine to me pulled nvidia drivers at 380/400kb/s today. Even if it only came at 250kb/s would not have minded. They may possibly be shaping http slightly during the day now because of places like downstorm and that nzb site that uses http but if you are getting 250kb/s i would not stress too much unless you need more than that.

Are you guys using a download manager i find they get far better speed than a browser downloader :D.

Thank you very much for sharing Tanya35! Always appreciate hearing from you!

I would just like to, if I may, disagree with your opinion. If Mweb was so incompetent in managing their systems and the distribution of bandwidth people would NOT complain about slow P2P downloads but would complain about poor browsing, email problems etc. If in fact they only have a finite amount of bandwidth capacity (and not as you pointed out incorrectly in another thread, cap), wouldn't you agree that a good approach would be to rather keep normal activity at prioritized level rather then to have it hampered by allowing people to download all they want at all hours of the day. This to me makes good logical sense.

I appreciate your opinion so much and would want to know, with a keen interest, how you would handle load balancing? I am sure if you can solve the problem and keep everyone happy Mweb would more than happily offer you a position.

Been using M-Web since 5 May and their product is far better than anything I used previously. I find their shaping of Usenet and torrents to be fair and reasonable. Besides the hiccup this weekend I've nothing to complain about. Even the latency on their shaped account are better than the latency on my previous unshaped account at SAOL.
