Could someone explain what could be causing this wildly different latencies traced to www.mweb.co.za directly after each other.

Would prefer to have the 3rd test's latencies all the time.

I did ask mweb to investigate but so far no answer back :(

So I strayed away from Mweb a while ago, used after hours uncapped which is excellent btw. However last two months I have stopped the feeling of downloading the entire Internet. So decided to try the 7 Day Mweb uncapped trial. So far actually seems a hell of a lot better than I remember.

Good afternoon TmanSA, i have deleted your session and re-authed your account.

Hi, do PE customers connection to DBN/JHB/CPT

Hi mercenary

I responded to your private message this morning. The split for Eastern Cape customers is based on the Telkom Edge router that your ADSL exchange routes to so it's difficult to say with certainty if you will end up on North or South. the best thing for you might be to setup a trial account and see if it meets your needs - do you have an ADSL line in place yet?

Hi tp3to

Looks like you were experiencing some DSL congestion on those earlier tests. The latency ramping up on the 2nd and 3rd hops like that is a classic congestion reading. If if happens again I would suggest that you try and put together as much detail as you can - trace results as you provided above, time of day it occurs, how frequently, etc. and send it along to MWEB Guy with your MWEB username so we can log it through to Telkom to check on the exchange conditions for you.

Good Luck!
Will

Thank u Mweb Guy...

I will reboot my router a bit later and give u some feedback..

Thanks Linoman, we'd love to have you back on board - maybe we can even find you a Bells - it is almost xmas after all! :D

Noticed a much better ping when gaming, browsing seems to be the same though. This new durban data centre seems to be doing its job.

@MWEB reps, any feedback on my interesting tracert ? - surely ping hops must go from me, DBN then out of the country ?
no DBN>DBN>CT>JHB> Int ?

Hi Anthro

International traffic for DBN customers will still route via the Seacom links in JHB.

As to why you were seeing the Cape Town hop in there it's possible you ran the trace while we were experiencing a teething issue with the JHB>DBN backbone link.

As we now have full redundancy on the backbone you would automatically have been diverted via Cape Town - this should have a minimal performance impact as there is a 10GB backbone in place on all 3 routes and there is sufficient capacity to handle the load should any one of the 3 links fail.

How does it look now?

Anyone having problems sending mail to smtp.googlemail.com

I've tried a manual connection to the server on port 465 and it fails to connect.
