MWEB Uncapped ADSL - Official Q & A

You can see that this is definately not shaping, but throttling. MWEB, why have we been lied to again?

Definitely throttled. The reason I got this account is for the off-peak unshaped part. If they don't do something about this, I'll be packing my bags, as I'm sure other people will be doing to.

From an earlier post I believe there is a section called MyAccount... Browse to www.mweb.co.za and there is a MyAccount link in the top menu - I think that is it?

Yes, it's in there, there is a "MyADSL" section, you can check your stats in there.

Go straight to this URL (requires login).

I would be amused if this page shows usage statistics for those with uncapped packages...

I also notice that all the pages refer to uncapped ADSL, but continue to show 'boosters' at R99 for 1.5GB. It sounds like they anticipate capped packages remaining for a long while...

Simple maths, I am only getting 130KB/s on torrents and nntp downloads, which equates to around 1024 mbits/s. Are we to understand that mweb is throttling said downloads to that speed? If so, I pay R539 for a 4096mbits/s line, drop the price to R539/4 = R134.75, which is the same as taking 4096/4 = 1024 mbits/s.

Lets give them a week to sort out the speed issues, on a 384 I pulled down 1GB and did 2 5-mans on a local WoW server

yea im also feeling like im left to hang... i honestly thought that at least from 6pm to 6am it would be totally unshaped and the entire weekend unshaped. I want clarity on this...

Well i was thinking of moving to this Package , but so far from what i am hearing , Not gonna happen , the last thing i need is to f0oked in the buM.

Thanks to all u Guniea Pigs out there , that are putting it on the line to serve the community. Please keep feeding back straight forward , honest reliable information , as i see this MWEB Representative casually AVOIDS all the REAL Revealing Questions...

There were always going to be growing pains. I don't see how people could not see this coming. I still think I might sign up with MWEB if afrihost doesn't come to the party soon.

Anybody on the 384 uncapped with news on download from Rapishare?

Unable to connect to mweb.co.za. Anyone else having this problem. Rest of browsing sites just fine, including MyBB:)

I couldn't connect to any INT sites this morning, but I had to leave for work so I left it, but it was at about the same time you posted this.

There seem to be 2 major (separate) issues here, but unfortunately they have been done simultaneously (for technical and cost reasons). The press release hasn't been entirely clear about this.

The release of the new uncapped packages has been done at the same time as MWeb have rolled out their own ADSL backbone (and Tier-1 status), so that they can control the shaping and load-balancing across all their customers.

So far this has not worked well, and existing (capped) ADSL customers, who have not switched to the new packages, have suffered from the general slowdown, without the 'benefit' of being uncapped.

When will MWeb sort out the My Account section, so that people can upgrade and make changes to their account without having to contact the call centre? Also, the details they have for my debit order are incorrect, and I can't change them online!

LOL, shaping is obviously 24 hours guys and no AUP will be enforced by them. They probably expected the network to "feel" unshaped after hours as regular traffic decreases.

It's simple they have set up and battle tested their network to ensure the mom and pops won't cancel due to leachers.

Looks like the unprioritised traffic will only improve once the leachers spread out among the different networks. If you want better speeds we need some to go to VOX and some to go to Afrihost to spread the burden.

And yes some to go to the devil (Telkom) when they finally set up their uncapped.

I know its totally of topic and im realy sorry about it but can some one pleas explain to me how do i set up my port setting with the mweb billion 7401VGP router and bittorrent.
