nope no website show its cached for mweb, so you are just downloading non cached content.

so switch to diffrent download and see if increase, normally i go for 2-3 days old stuff on newshost.

fair usage policy nothing to do with your speed.

actually nzbsa shows all mweb users as saix in the cached column...
because when nzbsa started mweb still routed to saix for news server, vlad just never bothered to change that part of the website

Im having the same speed problem since yesterday morning at least, MWEB Guy says he/she/they/it is investigating

Ya even cached content released today is running super slow. Infact I was downloading something on Sunday getting full speed, and some time on Sunday the speed just dropped and its been that way since. I think im only getting full speed late night.

Can one use the IP of the cape town caching server directly?

Afternoon Nasa

Unfortunately you can no longer route directly to either the Cpt or Jhb servers, we will route you to the nearest server.

Kind regards, MWEB Guy

Cape Town users dont seem to have access to the cache server.

Mweb Guy

Why is the Jhb server so much faster? I get much better speeds from the jhb server than the cape town one.. and I am a cape Town user

Evening fbman

How are you connecting to the JHB server from cpt?

I use to be able too. until last Tuesday.... around 11pm...

I loved the superior speeds of that server.

Why does the cape Town server have those kind of speeds? I got an IP from support one night when I could not connect..

From the jhb server I downloaded cached content at full speed... The cape Town server... I get the same content at 25k. why I ask?????/

My speed just picked up but not fully so it looks like all they did was lump in nntp with p2p and never bothered to tell anyone

Rambo nntp has always been classed as a p2p activity. No changes on that front :)

It could be that is was marginally faster because it uses old 80's style 7-bit encoding.

I have been experiencing slow browsing for a few days now. I have tried the call centre for help but can't really seem to get anywhere, so I thought that I would try this forum. Note that I am looking for the internet browsing experience and things like skype to be fine. I am not too worried about bit torrent, etc. I am fine with that being throttled. I have listed some trace routes which might pinpoint the problem. One of these is a site called www.mathletics.co.za which my kid needs for school, and which we have been struggling to get into. I have a 4Mb upcapped account with Mweb.

Rambo nntp has always been classed as a p2p activity. No changes on that front :)

Why though? For the international ones I get, but why shape your local nntp if you have an international bandwidth issue?

With MWEB's attempt to kick Telkom in the balls they can no longer give real local access, all saix local servers (caching or otherwise) come to you through int.

It actually has very little to do with international capacity :) All traffic has to go through the IPC connections and in order to ensure that there is quality of service on high priority activities we have to restrict the amount of bandwidth available to p2p activities.
This includes, torrents, nntp and one-click hosting services such as Rapidshare. We don't differentiate between the different types of p2p activity and as p2p users contend amongst themselves for this bandwidth speeds will fluctuate based on the current demand.
