Planned maintenance

Software upgrades in the Cape Town data center will run from midnight tonight until 06:00 tomorrow morning the 4th June. This will result in relatively small periods of intermittent unavailability of member services linked to MyAccount as well as access to the MWEB portal.

Kind regards
MWEB Guy

NOOO!!! My Interwebs..... Now how am I going to courier my friend in Johannesburg the interwebs, its too slow there for him to download anything!

Hi Everyone

Apologies for my reduced presence over the last two days, I have been out of the office. I would however like to just provide you all with some feedback before the weekend arrives as I see that there is still ongoing discussion here regarding speed and shaping related queries. We have listened to all of the feedback here since the beginning of the month and based on this a lot of work and focus has gone into evaluating every aspect of our traffic management solutions to ensure that everything is functioning as intended. Some improvements have been made and these have been acknowledged by some of the original complainants in this thread. We will continue to monitor the situation in this area very closely and we are in the process of establishing additional testing methods to more closely monitor the customer experience on our side. We are also closely examining the comparative experience between customers on the JHB and CPT network segments and I can assure you that if we do detect any significant anomalies in this area that the appropriate steps will be taken to rectify the situation.

It is also I feel relevant to point out, just for perspective, that while we do listen to the complaints in this arena very seriously that the users in this space do have very different expectations to the average customer and we must take our direction in terms of how we structure the environment based on the needs and feedback of the vast majority of our customers.

Kind Regards
Will

Why can I not get it into my heart to believe you or any other Mweb representative anymore.
Also we have to consider that the majority of your clients are not MyBB members so they have nowhere to go as your support system is pathetic. If we look at this thread I really do not want to look at the total extend of this issue. It's not about expectations, it's about what we know and the general public don't.

SAIX doesn't peer with MWEB. Do a traceroute and you'll see it doesn't go locally.

lol JasonH, who said anything about saix ? unless u quoted the wrong post :P
that post was back in the day to prove its not a line fault, because after 3 calls to mweb tech support they tried to troubleshoot it as a line fault.
issue was resolved since then

Hi Will.... Pls don't forget about us Natalians :)

Ah sorry read the line "if afrihost is blazing fast (not that i like them, they are just the cheapest) and mweb is slow , how can this still be telkom related?" and thought it was related to the peering issue between telkom/saix and mweb.

hehe, no, was to show them international links, (not between each other) was fine on the other isp :)
that specific afrihost account is IS based, not saix though :P

Funny how MegaXLR who was always the biggest defender is now the anti-mweb guy and vaalpens who wanted to start a petition is now the defender. Just an observation !

For me, im reserving judgement after I spoke to Will (and realized he wasnt a robot, but a real person with feelingz) and testing some stuff now.

lol, well, i wasnt getting what i was paying for, nothing on the account performed near 4mb, still have the case open with a few departments.
but for now my account is sorted...
and i work with isp's on a daily basis, i understand a bit how they operate with regards to shaping etc.

im still saying if nothing on your 4mb product is running near 4mb, then you are getting robbed :P

gone on for too long now.

if i agree to a FUP, i want mweb to agree to an SLA

its only fair

Definitely not PhreeMe, currently KZN users would be routed via JHB as we don't have an IPC node there, so your experience barring the additional distance you have to traverse via Telkom Backhaul should be the same as the JHB customers. If we pinpoint any problems that are specific to KZN users then we would have to look into the Telkom aspect of things and the route between them and our IPC network.

Does MWEB do anything specific to SSH tunnels? I was able to work perfectly fine and since this afternoon maintaining a consistent tunnel is a no-go. Trying to explain this to customer support is really pointless. Why are there multiple hops in 8/9:

Busy testing out my trial run with OW Gold. For the first time in more than 2 weeks my iTunes downloads are flying at a steady 490KB/s to 505KB/s! So far im very impressed with the product and the support team seem more keen and interested to assist......and not full of excuses. Will be testing further over the weekend and then make a decision to finally ditch MWEB, if things dont improve in the next few days.

Downloading Hellgate via torrent (I never use torrents) and the torrent has 478 seeds... guess what speed I'm getting... 10KB/s.

WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOO

MWEB... Frack you! Really!
I will not pay for this SHYTE much longer, I swear to god!

I was thinking about getting a MWEB 4Mb uncapped account, but after seeing all the negative feedback related to shaping and bad service I would much rather pay the small amount more for an OpenWeb Gold account. Really MWEB? Shaping HTTP?

And to be honest, you are shaping torrent as if there were no tomorrow. Why do you think people get uncapped accounts? To surf bloody facebook?

Which torrent btw, I can't find any with more than 65 seeds, so 478 seems weird. I can usually get at least 100+Kb on torrents especially if it's well seeded. Torrents also need time to pick up and they're shaped real bad still at 6pm, maybe check on it later.

but you;re probably better off with any other type of download.
