What speeds are you getting?

Good question, not great, but about 40-50% of my line speed. Guessing though.

I wish I could've recorded the call today I had with the MWEB tech - you guys would've laughed.
I just couldn't get the point through to him - and then, he goes on about my usage in 2010!!! I'm like, the problem has been going on for 2 / 3 weeks, stop worrying about last year's stuff!!!
I was MSN'ing with friends and they were telling me "watch him blame YOU" lol - which he eventually did (or at least, blamed my setup)

yes it is necessary. As it seems no one at mweb responds to anything anyway

its been more then a month of this rubbish service already

they have two options now :-

A) tell us this is how their service is gonna be for the rest of existance(i.e. 384 speeds on 4mb account, streaming impossible)

B) remove the "london device" as its obviously not doing its job

If they come out and say "yeah, this is our service now... deal with it" i would be 100% ok with that.
But leaving their customers with this uncertainty is just retarded and frustrating.

I've just had a long chat with the MWEB technical guy.

Ultimately, MWEB say it's my router setup that is the problem.

Really?

So!

We gave me the MWEB news server to use which is "news.mweb.co.za" and said I should try downloading something - article failed - then he mentioned that certain stuff/groups have been blocked by MWEB at request of people like Sony etc - did you guys know that?

Ok, so fine.

I try normal news servers, queued up random stuff - not working
SSL, works.
MWEB newsserver, all articles not working.

The conversation ended between me and MWEB technical guy - he blames my router setup - I blame things not working / shaping / throttling / setting not working.

But! If we go back a few months when I had issues with MWEB, the guy also blamed my router setup - so I decided to do what he asked and setup a ADSL router with only MWEB settings and still same problems.

Few days later, everything works, everyone on MyBB notices things are better - MWEB tech at the time couldn't explain what the problem was.

So, blaming my router setup - I do not accept.

Mweb reponds amazingly faster to complaints posted in the public arena(Hellopeter.com) >complaints posted in mybb does not hurt their brand that much .

Another MWEB cancellation here.

Your throttling, shaping and general bad attitudes towards customer support means my money is going somewhere else.

Good riddance.

When downloading from gaming.do.co.za my download speed is fine. As soon as I download from a other international site my speed is slow. Intermittent, slow and latency goes sky high. I'm so sick of this. It's been a month. MWEB phones and tell me that they have made changes on their side. I ask them what and the person does not know:confused:

This is really shocking and digraceful from mweb as an isp. One month of slow speed, my 56k modem was faster! This is going to be the last month I am using them. I would be sending in my cancellation letter now but I can't even logon and browsing on my phone!

I needed to verify if you are/were watching high res video. Please use the following YouTube test and send me the relevant screenshots of the results.

http://www.youtube.com/my_speed#

Did you physically cut/break your connection now?

@Mweb Guy and @Will

Thanks for the link above - I forgot about that service. The worrying thing from your point of view is that the graph in question unequivocally shows the degradation in YouTube service for MWeb thus prompting the question "what the devil has happened to the network in the last month" - I don't agree with the name calling but I do understand the frustration leading to said name calling.

I also agree with the sentiments expressed by others here - you are not going to solve this problem with "one on one" interactions with individual users - I personally don't have the time to hang around resetting routers, settings, etc when I have not made any changes on my side in the last 3 months - yet the service (as evidenced both by the size of the thread, the number of complaints, and the graph you linked to above) has demonstrably deteriorated.

Good luck, and, in the meantime, I'm seriously considering downgrading to 1 Meg - why should I pay for 4 Meg and get worse than 1 Meg - one of the reasons I upgraded to 4 Meg was to watch YouTube in HD without buffering, to be able to watch MLG without buffering, etc.

and what is REALLY frustrating is that this is afterhours when most of SA is in bed not using the internet...

@AfricanTech

At the moment I'm on the 1MB line, and so far, I'm so disapointed.

The reason I went for the 1MB line, is that I paid R349 for the 384K line, So upgrading to 1MB for R599 made sense.

At the moment my speeds are between 50 and 60k. Its retarded.

That's how I'm feeling about my 4 meg line at the moment - up until the last couple of weeks it's been great - in reality, paying for a 4 meg line is a bit of a luxury for me - I give up on other 'pleasures' to afford it - so I'm particularly disappointed by the degradation.

I've been with Mweb for a long time (since the early days of dialup) and they are generally good about their service - I am finding it hard to understand why they are taking so long to address the current issues.

and what do you know, my 1 gig Afrihost free account - MLG no buffering

and when I look at their YouTube test graph- pretty consistent service - not like the MWeb one

@Will - the stats are there - get the 'deep techs' out of their dungeons and rattle their cages - the numbers don't lie!

Downloading Netlimiter - 4 meg line - 33.1 KB/sec [paugh!]

Dammit! :'( Any stream I put on keeps buffering. Cehcking netlimiter and the max speed I'm getting for streams is about 50-60 KB/s. That's just not cutting it.

Edit: And suddenly, it's working fine now. Streaming at ~100KB/s smoothly. Hope it stays like this. These matches are TOO AWESOME TO MISS!!! :@

If potential customers read this thread Mweb would probably go bust >.>

Mweb, or at least it's "new" network division serves as the backbone for the greater Naspers group, so bust, probably not.

Anyway, I've had enough of the terrible speeds on a 4Mb service. The network is definately not dynamic, getting 14Kb on Giga at the moment, 00:30AM on a Monday morning?

Cancellation request sent through. Let's see if they will honour the 20 day notice under the CPA.

Things wouldnt be so bad if Mweb were transparent with this aggressive dynamic shaping. If they explained to us how it worked, when it was enforced and what we can expect from the service, majority of the people here wouldnt feel as cheated. The reason there is 820 pages now is because we feel cheated. You cant give someone a Ferrari for a year and then decide to take it away from them and give them a VW Beetle and expect them not to ask the question why you changed the cars. Knowledge is power Mweb. Let us know what is going on so we can make informed decisions if we would still like to be customers or not. None of this underhand aggressive shaping with no warning or information, let us know who/what/where/how and why!
