MWEB Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

So on a whole, Mweb's uncapped shaped product is inferior to a capped competitor product in terms of general use and end user experience for a basket of activities.

Got it.

I'll continue to monitor the situation, hopefully (and I've said this before) things improve overall. The picture 6 months ago versus now is vastly different however.

I for one do not believe the quality of the mweb uncapped product is as good as it used to be, which is unfortunate as it used to be amazing. Perhaps some would say "a miracle" given the South African context of ISP services and product offerings.

Things are sliding. They could improve. That's all I'm going to say.

Just my opinion and observation.

We are always looking to improve our network, one example of the upcoming improvements is the IPC node to be added in Durban. There are many other options that we will explore during the upcoming year that should improve our network performance.

It is uncapped 4mbps account.

So from your response I am guessing streaming is not anywhere near the top of the tree?

Streaming is given a high priority on our network, during business hours the demand for high priority traffic such as email, vpn, etc is more than after business hours and this would impact the rest of the network.

from an ISP perspective there is a lot of factors etc, which i shouldnt be worrying about...
but im joe shmoe on the street, i pay R530 and speeds below 50KB/s sometimes on a 4mb product doesnt make sense to me as a user.
but overall in comparisson mweb is still tops

Thanks thewusman. We value this type of feedback and will definitely take it onboard.

Personally I don't think any service provider should ever become complacent about the quality of their products, or their network and here at MWEB we certainly aren't. Ongoing network improvements are definitely the order of the day and I'm confident that with projects such as the upcoming Durban IPC node, which I'm led to believe is progressing well, things will only get better for our customers.

The MWeb Way - network wide protocol/site shaping - worked well until recently because the general experience was acceptable. Other uncapped ISPs in the same price range throttle specific individuals on the basis of usage.

The problem for Mweb is that, as more and more protocols and sites get added to the Shaper, everyone is now suffering, even those who do not have high usage.

Fresh out of the box, the product is crippled.

For a 4Mbps user, if you use more than 100 gig a month it is probably still worth it, otherwise you are much better off with a better performing and less expensive capped account.

I still say this is more region specific. Steam, Http, Ftp, Youtube and my MMO is a lot better now.

Well my internet is F'd. Took ages just to load this site, what's going on?

MWeb guy... tonight just opening Google, Facebook and especially Mybroadband is slow - Everything is slow. something is very wrong. I've been refreshing this very page 20, 30 times just to get to post this... if this posts at all!...

My partner on the other pc is also having the same problems, except he can't watch anything on youtube as its just buffering and not moving. I've resorted to rebooting the router which helped for all of 2 minutes and the problem carries on!....

Torrents I had to stop, it was only going at about 40Kbs anyway..., and even stopping those made little difference...

lets see if this posts!............. :(

Mweb is definately not what it used to be - sorry to say, and its damn difficult to be nice when you pay for a a 4 meg service that was great at first and is pretty pathetic for the last 4 - 6 months....

really not happy.
