Pathetic service Mweb.

"It's SEACOM, not us" is not an excuse. We're paying for a service from YOU, not SEACOM. This has happened how many times now? And you still don't have a backup plan in place?

How about some status updates? ETA's? An apology? Offer of downtime subtracted from our next bill? SEACOM is obviously a sub par cable/service, but you don't have to be.

Seeyou

I hear you, but honestly, until EASSY is 100% up, name me an alternative?

Say SAIX and I might burst out laughing

An alternative to what? SEACOM or Mweb Uncapped?

We pay Mweb monthly for a service. I may not be up to date on my jargon, but as far I know "Best effort service" does not cover ZERO international connectivity. Living in Africa, I can accept that this cable appears to be made of candy floss. I can't however stomach the fact that this has happened several times already and Mweb has no failsafe in place to ensure SOME level of continued connectivity, and yet still expects us to pay them at the end of the month and take it all sitting down.

You may stand up? That will not solve your problem tho. So the best is Telkom or other Sat3 3 as a backup. Anyone tried Axxess prepaid?

Every time SEACOM goes down, this topic crops up again. People blame MWeb. Others try to explain that MWeb relies on SEACOM just as we rely on MWeb (that is, that MWeb itself does not have it's OWN undersea cable; it purchases bandwidth from SEACOM, who is a service provider to MWeb). Then people say they want redundancy. Then others explain that redundancy, at present, would drive the cost of uncapped ADSL up. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. Go find the thread from the last time SEACOM went down. As has been said, until the next high-capacity cable arrives later this year/early next year, there is not enough redundancy.

Edit: EASSy set to go live this month :D

Cancel with them dude, do it!!!!!!

They are ripping us off so badly, downloading 100+gb a month for 539 is just unacceptable, cancel brother it is the only way to show them.

+1 :)

Yeah, so selfish of them to arrange expensive temporary SAIX bandwidth for us in the meantime. Wait, someone is going to complain that it's HEAVILY shaped :)

I'm sure MWeb wants SEACOM up as soon as possible too. It must cost them a lot to route via SAIX. I'm not saying we should feel sorry for them of course, but they are in a difficult position because there is no cost-effective alternate for redundancy yet.

Hey everyone I got something to ask. As many of you may know I'm not getting half the service of what I'm paying for i.e. excruciatingly slow speeds etc. But I also think I'm paying too much. I just checked my Mweb statement and they have been debiting my account for a lot more than what it should be. Over the past few months I have been charged R384 for the Mweb Uncapped excluding line rental. Then when my line was my migrated to Mweb I started getting charged R534 a month for Uncapped 384 all inc.
Now that I've upgraded 4096 Uncapped all inc. I am being charged R1600 a month, surely that can't be right, anyone got an explanation?

Are you on Bigtime Uncapped Broadband or the Internet Addict package. Either way I would call mweb and query it none the less.

I'm on the Bigtime Uncapped, And I think that I'm going insane due to the lack of high speed internet in my house. (All thanks to Mweb and Telkom) They're in cahoots you know ;)

At 09:19 GMT, 5 July 2010, SEACOM experienced a submarine failure resulting in service downtime between Mumbai and Mombasa. Current investigations indicate that a repeater has failed on segment 9 of the SEACOM cable, which is offshore to the north of Mombasa. This unexpected failure affects traffic towards both India and Europe. Traffic within Africa is not affected.

SEACOM has initiated emergency repair procedures to replace the repeater. Once mobilised, the repair ship is deployed to the location of the fault to pick up the cable. The cable is then brought on board to undergo the repair – the faulty element is replaced with a new repeater - before being put back in the water.

Whilst the repair process itself will only take a few hours, the overall process may last a minimum of 6-8 days. The actual duration is unpredictable due to external factors such as transit time of the ship, weather conditions and time to locate the cable. For this reason, the estimated duration of this repair remains uncertain.

SEACOM, in co-operation with individual clients, is actively seeking alternatives to restore service whilst the repairs are undertaken.

Looks like it will take a week to repair this latest SEACOM fault  Damn that repeater on segment 9.

I'm hoping that they have said "6-8 days" simply to placate us, so that when it's up and running by tomorrow, we're all seriously impressed :) EASSy is scheduled to come online this month. I wonder if MWeb has purchased capacity there. Then when the east link goes down, we just switch over to the west link :)

Edit: Was thinking of WACS (west); EASSy is ... *E*ast.
