Thanks for the update. This is not mission critical (for me anyway), and I'm sure it will be sorted out.

Edit: The issue was resolved almost at the same time as this post was made. Routing is 'normal' now...

While I'm on the subject, some of the tracerts going via London are pretty slow (MWeb to Telkom and back).

Hi Gordon,

I'm in the southern suburbs as well - this is what I'm getting:

The issue has been resolved already!

What you are seeing is that traffic gets as far as the gateway, which is normal. The actual server does not respond to ping requests, which is also OK. Slow, but normal...

okay, firstly thanks to mweb ops for all his help. Even though I've had a lot of issues, he's always responded courteously and quickly. I've spoken to a technician who removed the protected status on my account which seems to have improved my browsing experience but all my steam and p2p downloads are still throttled at 100KBps. This was never the case previously and I can only think that the p2p/steam shaping has gotten more aggressive this year, seeing as my technet updates are not done via port 80 either they are also throttled to 100KBps. I will be cancelling my account on monday. My experiences last year were excellent and I didnt mind the heavy shaping during the day since it was greatly relaxed at night, seeing as that isnt the case, I have no reason to remain with mweb.

actually i take back what i said about the improved browsing experience, I just lost all connectivity with the mweb acount... cant even access the mweb site...

aaaand telkom fcks it up again.

Another night of useless and pathetic internet. I can't download as its too slow and can't stream anything because it is too slow and buffers every second. Oh yes this on a 4mb line that works fine on another accounts. *Waits for the MWEB fanboi's*

If I hear one more time that it is not MWEB and it is a Telkom fault I am going to scream! Last year it was shaped heavily in the day and less at night, now that it is just one big heap of slow internet I am so glad I cancelled. Thank you to the various MWEB technicians aka MWEB Operations that has tried to help, I know it is not your fault but there is something horribly wrong with your network at times. Others are complaining as well.

PS fanboi's just because its working for you doesn't mean its working for everyone, please try to somehow understand that.

It seems as you only have a problem with P2P downloads, as we do not shape gaming traffic; you are also on a shaped account.

NNTP and other P2P type activities are managed on our uncapped shaped products and available bandwidth for these services is contended with other P2P users.

This means that speeds can fluctuate from time to time and while we always strive to give as much bandwidth as possible to these services we make no guarantees about how well they will perform.

This has been discussed extensively on these forums and my recommendation to all P2P users is to consider the overall amount of bandwidth you have used for the month, rather than speed watch on a daily basis.

If you require the immediacy of line speed transfers for your P2P needs then I would urge you to consider moving to an unshaped product.

Are you still having connectivity issues?

Kind regards,
MWEB Ops

I thought you could only watch DSTv online via an Mweb account?

Nope. You can stream sport via the Supersport site as long as you have a DSTV account and register it.

News servers have been down for the past 2 days for me as well.

@Mweb Operations, how much priority is given to the R2000 a month accounts? Would it be worth it for me to move over to one? As I download, and stream and stream

Ai. Both news servers are as slow as .... well.... an owl swimming through custard :(

It's been so good until now. 10kb...20kb's.... nothing over that :( Anyone else? In Durban.

naa not been using mweb news server, alt binz cant even connect to it :P

only using payed news server from now on :)

your talking about the 2k for unshaped 4mps? that will run p2p anything at max speed 24/7

Yip, its also QOS that I need as well. Use tons of Hulu (wife), Youtube, building websites etc. So we are arranging our whole lives at home around the net. It might be time to start paying a premium price for a quality product. Is there a contract or can it be cancelled at anything etc?

I'm trying to sync my Onenote Files with Microsoft Skydrive and it's slow slow that it keeps timing out.

@MWEB - is this traffic also heavily shaped? Should it be?

(4 Meg Uncapped line - Cape Town)

I can't connect to the news server since Friday night. I can't seem to ping the news server either. Can you please check it out for me Mweb Ops? Tell me what you need and I will PM it to you.

Can't ping that one either, also can't traceroute to it, but if I traceroute to news.mweb.co.za I go to a different IP. Probably due to their loadbalancing. I think the IP above might be their news server in Jhb?

Try using 196.28.78.229 as your news server and see if it works.

everything is running fine for me atm.

normal downloads at 500kb/s
torrents at 100kb/s
LoL ping at 300ms
BFBC2 ping at 120ms
jitter is around 4ms
