Recently upgraded 4mbps line. R 900 a month.

Even 480p Youtube vides buffer, Justin.Tv streams won't work and yesterday when I tried to listen to (local) online RADIO, that wouldn't even work.

Really starting to wonder if this is worth it.

Hi John_Mongrel,

How many users are connected to your router when you busy with Youtube, Justin.TV and trying to listen to the online radio? Do you listen to the online radio and run downloads in the background and watch youtube videos?

Please send me your MWEB account details and I'll investigate further.

Kind regards,

MWEB Guy

No it is not. Using a non-standard port for NNTP such as 80, 8080, 25, etc. is seen as bypassing shaping.

Phone Mweb, speak to the abuse department and see if I'm right or wrong! The above you mentioned is also correct!

I can vouch for the posters above.

In a PM with Will@MWEB (and I trust this is in everyone's interest posting as much) I asked whether using SSL on port 5563 for NNTP constituted an abuse of the service. It was confirmed that that particular would be regarded as an abuse because a) the intended port for NNTP is on port 119 and b) A non-standard port may, from time time to time, be overlooked on the shaping policy resulting in a breach.

As a rule of thumb now though, if your NNTP is going more than 0.00KB/s at 14H00 then you are bypassing the shaping. :D

Dear MWEBGuy - my support ticket from 10.6. has remained unanswered and all my posts to this thread have been blatantly ignored. My cancellation form is on it's way (considering my current 20KB/sec it will perhaps take some time).

Your support staff and customer care have completely failed and this should be a clear indication for everyone wanting to join MWEB, that customer retention is not a priority.

With regards to your uncapped offering, it should be a reasonable expectation that a user is able to download at least 100GB of traffic and thereafter face degradation of service. Perhaps your marketing guys should revisit the definition of a power-user, as it appears that in MWEB's books this is someone who perhaps does not download more than 20GB of traffic. While other customers suffer from poor line conditions, my service has degraded from the minute I changed my login details to MWEB. Your lack of transparency with regards to shaping and literally suspending users accounts (I doubt anyone can call 20KB/sec a usable service in this day and age) leaves me with a bitter taste and the feeling of "having had". Uh well, your competitors are currently enjoying your demise and lack of customer focus at least ;-)

is anyone having any connectivity issues with accessing certain services, like twitter and itunes app store?

Browsing seems to be fine but when i try access twitter using the twitter app on my mac or ipad(my ipad is wifi only so i connect through wifi to my mweb account), it gives lots of errors.

i thought it may just be the ipad twitter app so i did a full reset and connected it to itunes to reconfigure it but itunes on the mac does not want to connect to the online store. it just gives a time out error.

but, browsing normally through the web browser seems fine.

are itunes and twitter app support down at the same time or am i just doing something wrong?

everything worked flawlessly till today then all of a sudden these connection issues started happening.

imon the 4meg uncapped account in pretoria.

Why is mweb ****ed up ?

I can't play champions online with mweb, but I can with webafrica. Can I send my webafrica bill to mweb? surely with such kakness I can demand some sort of compensation. I mean my VPS was off for one day, I got compensated. In fact all problems around that VPS was sorted out within 24hrs. Now if only mweb gave such service levels. I guess we are back to mweb the black box days where we all just know it's gone to ****. Seems we are flagshipped with mweb.

:edit
4 days now and no word from Master Gamer. If I waited 4 Days to help someone, then I'd be fired, but with mweb it seems to be the norm.

can i ask how you did that?
i am a bit moronic.

rather use:
Remote Address: 93.158.110.242 Port: 80

That was one of the other ips it uses when itunes opens. tcpview or something like netlimiter.

I have waited 3 days when the call center told me that...now for R130 I have an Telkom account and never looked back, for 2 months now. Mweb started off so well, now they back to the days that they where a small useless ISP.

Good jobs guys:)
