MWEB Usenet decommisioning

I cancelled as well. Mine is going offline tomorrow.

Also got a call from a rep asking me why I am leaving. And trying to tell me I can get discount with another service provider.

So who did you guys move to? I had a 4 mb premium uncapped line. Where can I get the same service.

The best way to get similar service for a similar price is to get a Web Africa Home uncapped 10Meg account and run it on your 4Meg line.

Then you can use the IS news server.

I was actually really lucky, I got a new TV this month with the 1TB of free data from Vox, which should last me about 6 months, at which point I'm sure many new offers will be available and prices even coming down.

I had 2mb uncapped, went with Afrihost 50 + 50 Mb capped. I used their 1gb test account and it went pretty good. I hope it stays that way

This is really unfortunate, mostly because I only picked up on it yesterday after all my downloads failed.

It's a shame MWeb, it really is. I've been with you since I can remember, and I've always advocated your service, but this is the final straw.

I am going to miss FON and AlwaysOn, but that's a small price to pay.

Goodbye!

I still can't actually believe it, I just checked for a laugh how much it would cost me to stay, R899 for standard 10Mbps uncapped and if I take the Giganews offer with the lifetime 10% discount I will pay R1194, depending on the exchange rate, for 250GB of data with a 10Mbps line, that's insane.

Mweb mentality for suggesting that...

Hi awsome007, our Helpsite has been updated :)

Kinda insane actually...how does a small ISP like CW field a top of the class news server and MWEB cans their server? Surely MWEB has 100x more economies of scale...

I'm inclined to think this has more to do with getting rid of heavy users than anything else...

I think after their last AUP change, lots of heavy users left MWEB.

The Usenet service has been decommissioned since. Just trying to wrap my head around this one, are you saying that you're still able to use the service?
