What's your opinions on riding at night? I love riding, want to use the bike all the time but not sure if I should since I'll be riding home for 80km at 1am.

Lights, lots of lights. Make yourself as reflective as possible.
Bikers tend to be invisible to cagers during the day, so at night you need to be more careful.

As long as you can see where you are going clearly, and try to make yourself as visible as possible to other road users, it should be OK.

I was planning to take my bike to the insurance inspection centre today, I didn't watch the forecast.

R240 pm with Outsurance, not bad.

Triple check the excess conditions.

As long as you can see where you are going it's no different.

If you can't, slow down until you can.

Only thing to keep in mind is at 1am, there is very little traffic on the roads, and from my experience, what traffic there is, consists of drunk drivers, overly tired drivers (who are worse), and the rest think that because there is little traffic, the road rules do not apply, so do not expect cars to stop at red lights or stop streets.

I ride like all those things are true whenever I am on the bike. and I am sure a lot of other riders on here do the same.

if you ride like everyone is trying to kill you all the time, then driving at night wiht good lighting is no different then driving during the day.

riding is awesome, at night is dangerous... but then again, in traffic commuting just as much.... i guess it's all about how responsible you ride.

I'm pretty responsible, well as responsible as one can be while riding, its not like i don't open her up every now and again. but i'm scared for the day i get a fine on the bike cause it'll probably be court.

my helmet (Shark Skwal) has built in L.E.Ds that flash green, i find because its not common it stands out a lot.

its a road i've driven everyday for the last 8 years dark but thats why the bike has lights right..

I too ride like everyone is trying to kill me, people are morons, at that time i don't think i'll be coming to a complete stop either, but won't be just flying through intersections.

Glad to see nobody is really against it, some live in fear, i say the bike was built to withstand the dark/rain/etc so why not..

Think I'm finally ready financially to get a new ride! Woohoo. My mind changes daily on what I want but at the moment keen for either a triumph street triple or a ktm 1050. I like each one for different reasons. Wish I could afford a few bikes ;)

He he. The different reasons are always the problem and deciding which ones are more important.

Apart from eating itself that 675 Triple is still the most awesome engine I've owned. Makes a great noise (with help) and is just the perfect versatile middle ground.

Interesting you compare the big 1050 to the small Triple. Would expect you'd compare the Speed Triple to the KTM.

I don't have the option of a car for daily use.

Well I have the option, I just choose not to have one.

On the weekend I use the car to do stuff that requires loading people or stuff.

Yeah I severely miss my STR.

Oh no I don't miss mine much in everything else.

Just the engine. When it worked.

The dealership experience being the worst of it.

I'm coming from a 390 duke which I've had for a little over 2 years.

The 1050 appeals to my practical side I think. I really want a wind screen. With my 390 highway trips give me neck ach as I push my head into the wind. The engine will be happy at highway speeds for long periods. Comphy. I can get a topbox to put my helmet in when parking at the shops. Big vtwin. My GPS will fit nicely on top of the dash just behind the screen. It's quite an easy bike to ride. Light clutch etc. (Test drove it ages ago so will probably need to do it again). KTM currently have them going for 140k ( normally 160k) and I've recently seen one on gumtree with 5000kms for only 110k. I love the KTM service at KTM Centurion (and all KTM dealerships for that matter).
It will probably be quite difficult to lane split though...

I've been interested in the street triple for yonks. I think I just may have watched every review video on YouTube. Unfortunately have not ridden it yet. I recently saw an 2015 RX at fire-it-up for 90k. I think that's a real good deal. Unfortunately at the time I didn't have the cash. Love the sound of the engine especially with the arrow. Would really love a quickshifter. And those bar end mirrors. The STR would be better for lane splitting and commuting through traffic. Adjustable suspension would be cool to play with. I wouldn't put a top box on it though. I could get an aftermarket screen but the ones I've seen don't look too good (functional), so would probably put up with the wind.

Not sure why but the speed triple has never really appealed to me. Maybe because they don't praise them in review video's like they do with the street.

Regarding the street, as far as I know by 2017 bikes need to be euro 4 compliant but triumph have not announced their new STR yet, so do you think they will still be selling them in 2017?

Top box has changed my life I must say so I can see the appeal of going practical.

Not sure what's going on with the emissions or if it even applies to us.

The STR and Triumphs in general have become very expensive locally.

I didn't buy a Speed Triple because it just didn't seem sensible as it's not much more potent day to day and would eat more tyres and petrol and so on.

And honestly I've outpaced many a Speed on breakfast runs so never felt a loss for it.

New Speed is apparently amazing but haven't tried it yet.

The 675 triple is supposed to be replaced by a 800 triple next year to compete with the competition. Not sure where that leaves triumphs own 1050.

Anyone using EatSleepRIDE?

I used it a little some few months ago but didn't add any real value to my day to day.

Ja that's just the thing.

It's cool for a day or two but ultimately more effort than it's worth.

Also since I've gotten the Garmin that tracks every little detail including Gear changes and individual braking etc.

Took the baby Gixxer to Stellenbosch on Saturday to get much needed practice. Went well, especially when I removed the waterproof inner from my jacket... Breezzzzzzy.

Today was day 1 in traffic going to work, need more work on that slow clutch release and down shifting while approaching an intersection.

At least now cars can actually see me, sitting more higher and the bike a bit bigger than my scooter. Much respect to those in cars seeing bikes.
