So yes, it's me with the 2 stroke 390.

DISCLAIMER!!! I bought the bike 2nd hand with 6500km on the clock, it not has 16800km on.

I'm not going to get into it too much because I get so angry and upset, I'm just going to list the issues I've had on my bike.

1. Broken Fan. Bike overheated when I was pulling into my office's parking. Was probably broken when I bought it.
2. After the new fan was fitted, it broke again. (these fans were the old revision) New revision fan was fitted and I've had 0 cooling issues since.
3. Airbox broke. New one was fitted.
4. Airbox broke again. Goodwill replacement pending.
5. Headgasket blew on 12800km.
6. Tyres fitted at MotoMate and they tensioned the chain too much. 400km on the new tyres and the chain came off at 116km/h on the highway. Almost died, MotoMate claimed it's the first time it's happened to a client. I could've checked the tensioning, but ja.
7. Dropped piston ring 4500km after rebuild.

All of these bar the chain was/is being fixed under warranty.

I suppose I just bought a lemon.

I'm trading this in right after the re-rebuild and buying a 2010 1200GS.

These are awesome bikes, and there are plenty ones riding around with no issues. Just keep the bike while it's under warranty and flog it just before it ends :D

SO I am replacing front pads on Saturday - R250.
Anything I should know about riding on new pads?

Yes, if you brake, the bike will stop slow down and even stop :D
Nope :) it's the same as with cars.
Are you changing it yourself? if so, same rules apply, open the brake Fluid reservoir

So no heavy braking, take it easy basically? I generally don't brake heavily so shouldn't be an issue.

No, having them fitted. Don't have the tools to do it myself.

Can't go wrong with a GS. 2010 has the dohc motor which is sweet. My 1100GS had it's final failure at the GS Trophy this weekend. Ironically due to a dud new battery - so actually can't fault the bike.

Gonna go retro and buy a R nineT racer as replacement. Over offroading.

do yourself a favour and get them. You will need 1x Flat screwdriver (for the dust cover) 1x hex spanner (for the actual pins under the dust cover). It takes all of 10minutes to change the front pads
 
Yea, but then I need to also buy the spanners to remove the wheel. This is a rough month, will have to wait on those purchases.

Not sure why you would need to remove the wheel to replace the pads, bro? You don't even need to lift the bike of the ground for this (even the rear pads are simple enough to change)

Don't need special tools.

Just right size bit (possibly in the bike's toolkit) and a C-clamp.

If you don't have the C-clamp use the old pads and some elbow action to push the pistons back.

No need to take the wheel off.

Unless you have something italian where the rear brake caliper sits inside the wheel behind the swing arm.
 
Thanks guys. I'll check it out. It's the front wheel so swingarm won't be an issue. Don't have a c clamp but do have elbows so I'm sure I can solve it.
