I'm in the same boat, pinlock no longer functions because I suspect the visor is warped (how I don't know). But on a 3.5 year old helmet I'd rather just get through this last winter and then get a new helmet before next year May vs getting a new visor which is 25-35% the cost of a whole new helmet

You can try some silicone spray on the gasket.

Obviously make sure the pinlock is fitted correctly as well.

You mean the rounding profile is different?

Because if the numbers are different...then it's not the same spec is it?
The numbers are exactly the same. The Michelin tyres are just not as wide. Both stock and new is 120/70-12 front and 130/70-12 rear.

Only difference is I'm replacing my visor not because of a warped pinlock but rather that I faceplanted the tarmac :p

I'll have a look at those. Only spotted one Bell before when I was browsing and it was an off road one....which could be fun :p

Yes so it's the rounding profile you are referring to.

Remember the width is measure across the surface of the tyre (along the rounding) not from edge to edge in a square fashion.

So the surface area that makes contact with the tar will still be 130mm...so they are equal but just appear different as the one is rounder (narrower) and the other looks flatter (wider).

This affect how quickly they turn-in from centre. Many people dislike a narrower tyre as it feel twitchy, otherwise dislike a wider (flatter) profile as it feels slower.

Some of the safest helmets you can buy for incredibly good prices.

But not as feature rich and fancy.

****

**** me, either the exchange rate is nuts or they are now profiteering.

Their road helmets were like R3500 just last year.

I am at KTM Durban and they have a 390 Duke 2015 brand new for R58999 , I am sure an offer on this bike would be a better deal than 50k for a 2014 .
My bike is busy being serviced 690 Duke.

Thanks for the info. Chatting to a friend and reading the advice given here has convinced me to wait it out until end of this year or beginning of next year. There are some fairly significant cosmetic and engine upgrades in the pipeline for the 2017 Duke 390 according to reports which will hopefully mean I can pick up a 2015 or 2016 model for a little less (new or second-hand) or if the price increase on the 2017 model is not too rough I might even consider buying one of those. I've got a reliable commuter so I'm happy to wait around for a good deal.

On the topic of helmets, what do you guys have/prefer?

I have a Shoei XR1000. Think its getting a bit long in the tooth now.

Also had an XR1000.

Then decided to try something new and got a Shark Speed R because it's supposedly designed for naked bikes.

Sent it back just about a month after purchase for "adjustment" came back and was okay for a while, struggled on for another few months and eventually lost my **** when they wanted to send it back to France for assessment instead of just replacing it.

Huge fight later I now have a Shoei GT Air and couldn't be happier.

Will never touch a Shark again, even if they make the best lid in the world because the customer service somehow makes everything your fault, even though it was a **** product from day one.

Considering what these things cost these days I will absolutely insist on a test ride with one before buying...if a shop can't accommodate that then no money from me.

Got the same helmet, great lid but I need a new visor and possibly new inners. I can feel the helmet is starting to feel a little loose.

Do they sell new inners for the shoei's ? did not know that? Next time I'm at track mac I'll check.

@Sauronza how does the Shoei GT Air compare to the XR1000

Looked at helmets this afternoon. Saw an ESV Venture....very light, felt roomy. They didn't have the colour I wanted so I'll pick it up tomorrow.

Sadly the XR1000 you can only replace the cheek pads not the entire inner.

Mine was also falling apart by the time I bought the new bike so it had to be replaced. Foam was pretty much disintegrating.

Look what's great for one person isn't great for the next. But if you already have a Shoei head and you know that works then that won't change.

I just found with the GT Air I went one size smaller than I did before the the XR1000.

GT Air is definitely quieter than the XR1000 but then mine was already old so a bit unfair. Of course the GT Air has the built-in sun visor which is a massive bonus and works really well.

Visor system is very much the same, but the GT Air peripheral window is larger so unfortunately you can't transfer XR1000 visor to it.

GT Air is a little heavier than the XR, which is expected with the extra visor and so on I guess, but it's not crazy. It's in the top box so don't quote me on this but I think it's 2.35kg.

Only initial issue I had was that the GT Air (at least the one I got) doesn't use the DD-ring but a proper click-in buckle instead. It irritated the **** out of me at first, but now a year later I actually like it a lot.

GT Air largest size is 1757g
