Hey guys,

Anyone have much maintenance experience with bikes?

I need to replace my clutch and I think I want to do it myself - cost and time savings for me.

I've watched a couple videos so think I have an understanding of what's needed.

Any particular advice you guys might offer?
 
I did mine on my XT550 yonks ago as a laaitie and it wasn't too difficult.

Popped the clutch cover off, loosened the clutch basked bolts, replaced the plates, popped the basket back on, buttoned it up and Bob's your auntie.

That said it was an older bike so I could just lay the bike on its side to prevent the oil from spilling out. You will most likely need to drain the oil off unless you ride a Duke with a dry clutch :D
 
It's also an old bike so I'm thinking of doing just that actually. Only issue is before I can buy the clutch kit, I have to take the cover off because the bike had 3 versions of clutch and they can't tell which is the correct one without taking the cover off.

Anyway will let you guys know how it goes :D

Did mine in december ... loosening the bolts was the biggest issue ... almost stripped a few.
 
1000km run in service done. R695.00

Came home via N1 and R300, now I understand what you guys were saying about the wind noise hitting your ears.
 
Clutch cable just snapped on the way home from work. Eish. Managed to push to a garage.

You can smash it into first and gooi mielies if you time it right.

Only marginally faster than walking but a bit less risky.

Almost dropped my Buell in a gutter from pushing it home and losing my balance.
 
I push started into second and made it to the workshop. Spent all morning looking for damn tools. Place is organized like an ANC black ops campaign. Anyway, ran into a snag, there's a thingy preventing me from removing the clutch itself and I don't have the tool to remove it. It's like a bolt with four notches / slots in it. Will post pics when I get home. Anyway so I'm Basi all screwed until Monday.
 
Okay so here's the beastie.

The clutch assembly and the thingy on the right which blocks it from coming out.

The bolt inside which is causing issues. I tried tapping it out but it's screwed in pretty tight, couldn't get any movement.

Torx?
 
No not a torx screw. You can see the notches - one of them is directly above the first 2 (if the two was positioned vertically not at an angle)
